Question Preventing halter rubs?

My MIL is notorious for leaving halters on her horses...

So even if I ask her not to, she probably will leave a halter on Emmie at least some of the time.

I would like to prevent as much halter rubbing on her little face as I can. I was thinking about getting one of these

Do you think that would be a good one for stopping the rubs. I will also be adding a breakaway tab to it just in case she gets hung up.

MIL's pastures are BARREN. There is only grass...no trees, not a single thing except acres and acres of grass.

Well, I use a regular nylon halter with my mare, and I've never had it rub away the fur. The only thing it does is matt down her bridle path, because I never clip it. It's on her almost all the time (it only comes off when a bridle gets put on), and she's got no halter rubs. If I put a leather halter on her, within minutes (it seems) the fur is gone.

That is sooo cute. She should be ok, I left a halter on my little guy all the time because at the time that he was younger I had to board him and if something happened I wanted anyone that was there to be able to get to him (they only had one person there that knew what to do with a foal/weanling).

Leather halters are better, they tend to not rub as much and are breakable if they get caught in the pasture... something that is VERY important.

I would be adding a leather break tab on to this one.

Well gosh, I'm blind.

If any part of the pasture tends to get muddy, the fleece will cake and will cause more problems than a regular halter.

The issue for me is though, that my Mother In Law...even if I ask her not to, will likely leave halters on the horses at some point if not all the time.

Maybe since the fleece is removeable and washable...my MIL might take them off and wash them?

If a halter is going to be left on, make SURE it is a breakaway halter - either a leather crownpiece, or a leather "tab" at the buckle. Thin leather.

A fleece pad is great when everything is clean, but as soon as it gets dirty and traps grass and burrs and dirt and little twigs, it's MUCH worse than not having it on.
