Honestly, if he doesn't want to be caught, a halter isn't going to make things any easier. He can easily stay far enough away from you and if you were to grab the halter, he could just rip away from you. Sooo much easier to leave it off.

Padded halters is what I would recommend, no rub at all!

Mmmm. I never turn out with a halter. I've got into many a fight over BMs and BOs over it- but I just won't have it. Apache has TWICE gotten stuck in his halter while grazing when I was there WITH him on the other end of the leadrope! Plus, all the horror stories like Tempo mentioned. uh! It's just not worth it. If the horse gets out, he'll be just as easy/hard to catch with a halter as he will without one.

I hope you find something that works for you. Me personaly i dont like turning out with halters on . It scares me to think of what could happen. But there are many different things you cuold try.
