Fiona is about 5 months pregnant now and when i came back from AK she got wider. not fat, but her stomach is coming out more on the sides. is this around the time that she should start to show a little? cuz if not i'm going to be very worried. and even the grl that i had ride her said she was looking wider. | Senior Member+ | When she is not preggers she is aloof and "Queenly." She looks down on humans as they are, in her opinion, only there to provide service to her and her demeanor is one of that she has resolved herself to being in our presence....we are only being tolerated. There are times when she is a real witch and would rule her pasture mates with her teeth and both back hooves! We even had a few people ask when did we plan on breeding her again because they sure wanted the sweet mare back. Lucky for us she is with 3 geldings now that she knew in the past and she enjoys their company. Maybe she is getting mellower in her late teens...no....she is simply lulling us into a false sense of security! Toss her bridle and saddle on and go for a ride...and see how quickly "The Queen" makes her presence and opinions known! Hummmmm now what was that stallions name that I tought would be a good nick with her...?

| Senior Member+ | At 5 months they do start to widen, they can get cranky, some do mellow like Sandra said. Fiona might look like a good-year blimp before that foal is born, so dont freak if she looks like she's gonna explode..... my mare was so danged wide at her due date I swore she was just gonna pop, and she ended up not birthing for another full month!!! Talk about one big belly, to hold one HUGE foal! My filly was so big it wasnt funny! But everything was fine. Dont worry about her widening, you'll see her getting wider as the months go on, thats really just the beginning, but in my opinion there isnt anything any more beautiful than a healthy mare heavy in foal!

| Senior Member+ | i was a lil worried about her already showing becuz i told a boss/friend of mine from another stable and she said she shouldnt be showing yet. but i figured w/ only 6 months to go about she should change a bit. her crankinest might have been due to the fact that i hadnt seen her in 10 days and i just came to the barn and started to groom and tack up( i did spend time w/ her in the stall) but on monday i took her out into the indoor arena and was just walking her around(there were lots of kids in the arena from our 4-H meeting, and she was such a doll. she was cuddling up to me, "wuffing" me all over(tickles when she wuffs my hair LOL) and then i put an english pad on her, made the leadrope into a circle and hopped on. she was so good!! so i think she was just mad at me for ditching her BBJ |

![]() | Gestation Hi BBJ07, You cannot usually visualize a mare widening until about the 8th month. Horses have 3 trimesters approximately 4 months each. A horse colt will extend gestation a little longer than a filly. If this mare has foaled before its really common for them to repeat the time to parturition and don't worry dystocia is infrequent in horses everything will be fine. Hope any of this helps! |
