| Senior Member | Preggers? I think so... (Nightmare) I haven't posted any pictures for any real good reason lately, so here's one for ya. Nightmare, my uncles 'rescue' horse (in a sense)... We got her like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() Now she looks like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() I am pretty sure this is not a grass/hay belly.... I'm pretty sure this is a baby belly. There was a 50/50 chance that she was preggers when we got her... she was pastured with two other mares and her 2 year old colt, who wasn't gelded. We don't have a clue as to when she was bred, if she is pregnant... we got her in September of 2007. I'm going to try to catch her this afternoon. She won't let anyone get within 20 feet of her. So, what do you think? Preggers or not?

| Senior Member+ | She def. looks preggers to me, esp. since her belly is rounded from her topline down. How old is she? Has she had foals before? When was she last dewormed? Is it possible to get a vet out to check her? I mean since she won't let anybody near her.

| Senior Member+ | She is a pretty girl... but for her sake I sure hope she isnt in foal... She is in NO condition to birth and nurse a baby... it would take off every pound she's gained and then some. Only way to tell for sure if she is or isned, is like Miss Patience said... have her vet checked.

With her being pastured with two mares AND HER COLT who was not gelded and was two years old, she could very well be. wish you had a good front view picture

I do know that she's had at least one foal before... the colt that, if she is indeed pregnant, will be this ones sire... (that's just sad, too...)... She was last dewormed in... again, I'd have to guess, she isn't pastured with all the other horses, but in the pasture across the road (my uncle's pasture)... I'd guess in November, maybe a week or two before November... if we could catch her, I'd deworm her, but it's virtually impossible to catch her... And as it is impossible to catch her (literally, she won't let anyone anywhere near her...) it would be kinda sorta very hard to get a vet to check her out... Quote:
With the sire being the mares two year old colt, would that do anything to the baby? I've heard that you shouldn't breed a filly to her sire, but I've not heard anything about breeding a mare to her colt... Quote:

| Senior Member+ | Time to get out the lawn chair and stake out in the field trying to make friends with her,LOL. Its a tough position your in, and i can tell you really want the best for this mare. I dont know what to suggest other than spending time trying to become her friend, it's gotta happen one way or another...pref. before that baby comes out! I can almost guarentee you will have 2 very skittish horses then! Good Luck! You did a wonderful thing just bringing this girl home. I wish you the best of luck with her.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That is the closest first generation cross you can get. The inbreeding coefficient is 37.5% and in anything above 10-12%, performance depreciation can be noted and continues to get worse from there (except in very careful line breeding programs). At 37.5% you are almost certain to have potential for problems like immune defficiency, blindness, deafness, sterility, etc. ACC |

| Senior Member | Yeah, I would be out there right now, but it's raining... I am going to go out to her pasture with a bag of treats, some feed, and stake out the haybale... Lol... Hopefully she'll get brave enough or curious enough to approach... I certainly don't want to chase her all over the pasture...
