I would suggest doing some research on methods used by trainers such as John Lyons, Clinton Anderson, etc. and getting some idea on how to help her learn to trust you.

That is the closest first generation cross you can get. The inbreeding coefficient is 37.5% and in anything above 10-12%, performance depreciation can be noted and continues to get worse from there (except in very careful line breeding programs). At 37.5% you are almost certain to have potential for problems like immune defficiency, blindness, deafness, sterility, etc.
Ok... I don't know much at all about genetics and all that other stuff when it cokmes to breeding and all that... but thanks a lot for that info.

Basically, if i understand it..your foal has almost 40% chance of having at least some problem, minor or major.

You need to get her where she can be handled. If you can at least get up to her the vet can find a way to find out if she's pregnant. Blood test would probably be the easiest way in this case. If she is, she's going to need extra care, feed, shots, etc. so it is imporant to know ASAP. Once you know you can determine how quickly you need to get her tamed. If she is having a baby, you need to work with her as much as possible or you will have a baby taught to fear humans and doing anything with it will be very difficult. Getting health care for baby is importanr so it needs to trust you, meaning mom needs to trust you. :-)

You would have thought of it eventually. :-) There are lots of threads on the topic in the training forum and you can post a question there too asking for help. Lots of knowledgeable people.

also, is there anyway you can get her into a smaller enclosure? would be easier...she'd have less space to avoid you.

At the time, no... she's just in a huge pasture with a few cows... there's no corner of the fence fences off that I could herd her in to or any type of smaller pen or anything... I may try to make something...

I'm not a vet, but she looks pregnant to me too... especially in the before pictures. With her being so skiny everywhere, and then having that rounded belly...

I've heard with horses that are afraid of people it's better to let them come to you. Let her get used to seeing you sitting out there and ignoring her. When you chase or even walk after them it confirms their instincts about humans being predators...

Good luck with her! She looks a ton better than when you got her. I hope it all comes out well for you... I know it's not the right time of year to be sitting out trying to tame a horse.
