Let the horse push you out of your saddle and come back down gently. Push forward, not up. Squeeze with inner thighs, not at the knees. I'm sure others have more to add but those are the things I can think of right off the top of my head LOL.

I briefly got experience at posting a couple months back at one of our local fairs and i find it hard to "post above the knee" i think someone told me. You don't use your lower legs? I just get all confussed with the toes straight, heels down, post above your knee stuff.

No, when done correctly, your lower legs are still but do not help you post. It will be hard to achieve that at first but as you gain strength you will essentially post with your thighs and you lower legs will be free to give your horse cues.

You "rise and fall with the leg on the wall". You can start feeling for the front leg at the walk. At the trot you will rise with the outside front leg and the inside hind leg.

I'd rather post a trot than sit it.

Once you get it, it will come sooooooo naturally!

Get someone to lunge you around at a trot and let you find the 1-2 1-2 1-2 rhythms. That will help you get down the speed.

Unfortunately I was instructed wrong when learning to post, I have arthritis in my knees and made it much worse from my first year of posting. Because I pushed at the knees and feet. Let the horse push you and use your thighs. Just follow the rhythm of the horse and be gentle don't want to slam down on the horse, just rise slightly with the horse and lower yourself, it will become second nature. For the first couple weeks it was hard for me but now it's unconscious good luck
