Well someone called me the other day I was excited.

I would be dealing with 2 minis. They are 2 years old colts(i think). They Havent been handled by people much and are a little skittish.

I would be hired to do stalls and help out because the Wife is pregnant and needs to be on bed rest. The husband is taking care of them now and the minis are taking up his time to do other things

They are about 10 minutes away from me (about 7 miles) . I would be going a few times a week.

Next Tuesday (7/8) Ill be going over to meet them and the horses and we are going to be talking about exactly what they want me to do and how much im looking to get paid......

SOO..My question is how much do i charge!? I need to make enough to put gas in my car and help pay my insurance

Any advise is VERY appreciated!

Well it depends on what all you would be doing. Would you be full stable hand and full trainer, or just part time of both or just a bit of each, or...? And it would depend on how often you went out there.

If it was pretty consistent, then I would charge by the month - if not, maybe by the day/week.

From what i remember on the phone.. He said he would need me 2-3 times a week.

He mentioned stalls and feeding(i think) and "being the Mini's friend" -meaning getting them used to me I assume?! I guess i would call that "training"

How much is enough to charge??!

If he means actual training with the minis as opposed to just handling them and petting them and such, then I would say probably about $200 a month is fair - at least where I am. If just handling, probably closer to $100 a month.

Sound about right to you?

UPDATE!!!

I went to meet them and the minis today!!

They were very cute but skittish and unhandled!

In the 10 mins i spent with the one mini (with no halter loose in the pasture) i was able to scratch and pet his head and neck! The mare(CORRECTION-1 mare 1(now)gelding) was VERY skittish and wouldnt let me near her to pet her much!

I will be going over Monday,Wednesday,and Friday for about 2 hours a day!

Im going to be cleaning the run-in shed and handling them every time i come!

I settled on $20 a day which is enough (i think)

Ill keep you updated on thier progress and hopefully get pictures tomorrow!!

Another Update!!!!

I went for my first day today!

I cleaned the barn and fed them (the husband didnt have time to this morning but knew i was coming over so didnt worry about it )

I brought a halter because Bentley(the gelding) lost his in the pasture and they couldn't find it! I also brought my extra brushes as they didnt have many! (and plus i like to use my own ) LOL

It took a me a few mins to get the lead rope around his neck but after that he let me place the halter on him

I brushed him and scratched him and he LOVED it! He was a little afraid of the Show Sheen Bottle and did a few rears but i disciplined him and made him stand and he was fine

Then i took him out and walked him around and he was good for the most part, just a little rude but wanting to bolt(a couple times). I ended on a good Note and gave him a treat! and set him loose!


Then i tried to get Lilly (the dwarf mare) to let me pet her but that was not happening! LOL

I brought them in the barn and let them go in the stalls, figuring that would help me catch her! NOPE!!

She is VERY scared and timid of me and was kinda climbing the walls!

I ended up just sitting in the middle of the isle with a little can of feed and eventually she let me feed her out of my hand! I figured that was enough "excitement" for the little girl for a day so i just left very slowly haha and she was fine!

Hopefully i will have more luck with Lilly Friday and able to get a lead on her.

Second Day!!

Bentley was better! We walked around the paddock and he was a good boy!

Lilly let me feed her out of my hand and kinda let me pet her She is going to need a lot more work but thats okay!

Well not much of an update but nothing much happened today LOL
