![]() | poor pony?
hey i was wondering i had see this girl who rode her pony, who played up ALOT when she was being ridden! i do not agree with what she did but im after some other opinions! anyway the pony is about 12hh and can be a s**t to ride, she bucks and plays up heaps. moving on the owner is 12 years old but is pretty solidly built asnd pretty tall (so looks a bit weird on the pony) i think its cruel for her to ride her especially since the pony is in her 20's. now the other day when her pony chucked her off 3 times (i belived she was trying to tell us something so told her she should hop off) then the pony was disaplined by being tput in a yard for 5 minutes (give or take) and then untacked after when the pony calmed down. the lady there went off at her and told her if she was ever seen riding the pony again they would call the RSPCA etc. was just after some opinions on this matter! thanks heaps |

I'm looking for abuse, neglect, or any other reason, and I don't see any There are many ponies that LITERALLY have bad attitudes, no pain, no nothing. They are spoiled rotten little beasts that are allowed to get away with a LOT. So honestly, unless you have proof the horse is in pain, and even at that, RSPCA wont' do anything cept have her get a vet, there is nothing here for you to even complain about Is the pony in good health overall when you look? Are the ribs showing? AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IF YOU CAN OR CANNOT RIDE. A horse in their 20's, with proper health, feed, etc....can be ridden way into their 30's. We have a few members with horses in that range that get ridden. I'm sorry, but I don't see any basis for you to complain. Pony and rider sound like they need a trainer. Not RSPCA And with ponies, they can handle more than people think. They were bred for YEARS to carry big burly men. Scots were notorious for riding ponies as their mode of riding. In England, you will find MANY larger riders riding ponies...they do look funny, but they are bred and trained for it.

I don't see anything that jumps out as "abuse" in this post. My friend and I are both about 5'9, and we ride 13.2 hand ponies...the ponies don't mind, they need the exercise. By the way these ponies are 24 and 23...And age has nothing to do with it. This friend also has a 27 year old quarter horse gelding, and he rides awesome! Still does speed!

you received excellent info: It is good of you to think of the Pony, but your friend could end up getting hurt. sounds like the Pony needs some training, or has been trained, but does not like to be riden this is just my guess. I love the minitures | |

ok well anyways there is no neglect here what so ever this girl is doing what she needs to do to be safe. and as for the horse being 20 that has nothing to do with anything i have a 25 year old blind horse and he is still one of the best riding horses i could ever find! she is doing what she needs to do to keep her horse under control what she did with putting the horse in a pen for 5 mins then untacking is perfectly fine.. it is better then her getting hurt with a horse that not anywhere near calm Quote:

| Senior Member+ | The bad pony attitude is in there blood It's really good of you to be worried about the pony and your friend, asking questions is the only way to be really sure about something

ponies are nutorius for being little bug rats i think the fact that its older doesnt have a lot to do with it it was probably like that 10 years ago ponys also can carry weight well - the fact the rider looks silly doesnt mean anything you can get grown men riding little 12hh ponies i think this isnt anything to worry about especially if the pony looks fit an well
