poor Christy

This is my husband's new 7 yr. old mare Christy. We rescued her from slaughter because she is severely headshy(probably due to the wolf teeth we had removed)and very thin. Why it did'nt accure to her previous owners to check her mouth first for any problems before writing her off as just some neurotic headshy horse is beyond us.Our vet said Christy's in pretty good health now except for her wieght which we're working on .I was wondering if you guys thought she might have some appendix in her or not, what do you think? In any case when Christy fills out I think she will be one beautiful girl.

yes, Christy is sweet and she now lets us put our hands on her forelock and near her ears and if we stand there long enough with no sudden moves, she's lower her head almost all the way to the ground. When we first got her, any movement anywhere near her head would send her almost rearing and forget about tying her to anything, she'd half kill herself to get away.but Christy is now starting this thing where she acts jealous .I'm not sure if she's jealous of us or my mare Sable.Like last night I went out to check them and I went to Christy first because she's boss over my mare and petted & stroked her then I went to my mare .Christy kept trying to move my mare away from me and after awhile I got tired of it and shooed Christy away.Christy just came back and kept doing what she was doing, I shooed her away a second time but this time she took a few steps and promply turn her rear to me with I guess was a challenge to my authority.I promply shooed her away more aggressively and a little further away from us.she tried a couple more times which resulted with her sulking a few feet away but giving me my space, I think she may be getting the idea that when I'm with Sable she needs to respect that.

congrats on saving this horse-she will be so pretty once she fills out-great day for here that you got her.She was probably so starved for attention, but you need to get her respect.Sounds like she is progressing nicely.Enjoy her.Keep us updated.

thanks guys we think she's pretty special and the important thing is my husband's bonding with her unlike the geldings we've had , go figure hah? nothing against geldings I've had a few really good ones but my husband has never bonded with any horse until now it's a win/ win situation finally! but does anyone have any idea if Christy might have appendix in her?I've been recently informed that she was used for racing when she was younger. I know she can flat out fly, I've seen her do it and she seems to really enjoy it too.Let me know what you guys think O.K.?

wow, i really think she's a beautiful mare even now!!! with some more weight, WOW, she will be awesome. headshyness is something that can usually be easily overcome!!! good luck, can't wait to see what she looks like after a few pounds are added on to her

Wow thanks guys it's nice to hear some unbiased oppinions of Christy, we think she's beautiful inside and out too.She has the most expessive eyes and that's what first drew me in, but when my husband got on her it was love at first seat lol! I think Christy felt the same on some level even though those teeth had to be killing her because she was sooo good with my husband.Christy has'nt been worked under saddle since we got her mainly because we didn't want to compound the problem with the headshyness. We have tacked her up except for the bridle since then and she's perfect about it , but tomarrow we'll try re-introducing the bridle and see how that goes.I'll let you guys know how it went.
