Question PMU foals - I can't find any decent info!!!

My family has been tossing around the idea of buying/adopting a PMU foul next year. It's not even CLOSE to being a for sure thing but I'm trying to find information. I've read and heard from many different sources that alot of ranchers are trying to breed sport horse & warmblood types for marketability, and that's what I'd deffinetly go for, but I just can't find any decent info!! I'm on the NAERIC web site right now trying to find some info. I went on yesterday and wrote one ranch that the web site listed for selling sport horses. Today I got a 1 and ahalf page long buttery e mail about how wonderfully their horses are taken care of, bla bla bla, and that they breed the highest quality Honevarians to their German imported stallion. Fine. Whatever. What I'm looking for here is info on buying/adopting these sport horse foals that I've heard so much about but I can't find info on ANYwhere! She gave me their web site to view some of their foals however the site is apprently under construction so I can't view it. Does anyone on here have any info on buying or adopting PMU horses and where I can buy/adopt them from?? I'm clueless as to where you actually GET PMU horses. I want ANY info, not just info on where to get the sport horse type.

As far as I know, you don't actually ADOPT PMU foals. You BUY them.

Difference? Less paperwork, etc.

I BOUGHT my boy through a dealer that was bringing two truck loads of them from out West. Mind you this was 4 years ago, but chances are if you looked in your area SOMEONE is probably bringing a load down.

NAERIC - North American Equine Ranching Council

This puts you in touch right with the PMU farmers and you buy directly from them.

Depends on the farmer. Just look under "Purchase a foal" and it has all the info

From the site:
Quote:
Approximately, 7,000 PMU foals will be born on ranches this spring. The majority of foals are Quarter Horses. Paints, Appaloosas, Percherons, Belgians, Clydesdales, Standardbreds, and TB/Draft Crosses (CanAm Sport Horses) are also available.
Prices vary according to the quality of the foal, conformation, movement, and breed registered vs. non-registered foals. The majority of the foals are registered with NAERIC and eligible for NAERIC Advantage rewards.
If you are interested in buying a NAERIC registered foal from an equine rancher, please fill out and submit the online application. Your application will be emailed to NAERIC ranchers having foals that meet your specifications.

KZ, from what I have seen, when you buy direct, the prices vary just as much as the regular market

being PMU does not "decrease" their purchase price at all. They are HORSES. No more, no less.

Some ranches have ET sponsered mares where the foals that drop are actually a totally DIFFERENT breed and registered with that breed association.

Some PMU got smart and found that raising "Sport Horses" was the best route...they got the "larger" horses for more urine out put, and found a market and used actual "breeding decisions" to put their mares into foal. And not just any ol POS stud that walked and could get it done.

So you may be looking anywhere from 500 to a few hundred thousand for a horse from a PMU farm. Just depends on their breeding practices and marketability of those outputs.

Good Luck in your search.

Also, at the NAERIC site you can go to a Breeder's List and view their personal farm web pages and contact each farm that way.
