To me its not even about the money anymore. She is just trying to screw me over. I think ots kind of ironic that she tells me this the day I tell her I'm leaving. Its about the principal now. I shouldn't have to give this woman one more dime of my money.

That's a good point, she doesn't have a contract on the additional board. I haven't seen the final "bill" yet but I have a feeling she is going to attach several outrageous fees.

I just think that you can avoid any and all confrontations just by saying, "Here's the date I'm leaving. Please give me an itemized bill for what I'll owe tomorrow." On the day you leave, give her a copy of the bill and a check, have her sign "paid in full" and leave. It just makes life so much simpler. Some things in this world are about right and wrong and justice--murder, discrimination, your own honor and honesty. Stuff like this? It's about letting go and leaving it behind as quickly as you can. Nothing will hurt her--the biggest fight in the world will give her charge, she'll enjoy it while she's screeching bloody murder, you will please her. Ask for a bill, pay it, leave, get on with your life. That is what I would personally do.

You can't win this. You can save money and be happy that you stood up for the principle of the thing--but what do you get? A big huge fight, lots of bad feelings and negative energy, and sleepless nights. You get her badmouthing you all over town (though she may do that anyway). If the principle is that important to you, go ahead--maybe you need to stand up to her. If it's important to you because you haven't done it enough in the past, then by all means stand up to her. But if you don't need to do it for yourself for any kind of character-building, then I'd let it go and stand up for principles at school board meetings or church or political rallies. Save your energy for something important.

She didn't specify the meaning of turnout in her contract. All it says is they get daily turnout. If she wanted to charge extra for having to bring a horse in who is on limited turnout she should have mentioned that in the contract. It's her responsibility to mention something like that, as far as the contract is concerned turnout (which is included) could mean 10 minutes or 23 hours.

And for what it's worth I don't like to let people screw me either. I would take my horse, not pay and tell her she can see me in small claims if she so desires.

Well I got a reply back to my final email with everything in the contract quoted. I was very specific and told her she was in violation of her own contract. Basically everything I told you guys. She wrote back and admitted she was wrong. I was really surprised by this...but I had also told her that I was going to talk to my attorney and see if these fees were valid with the contract...obviously they are not and she let it go

If your boarding contract states nothing about the "extra work" she apparently thinks she is doing than I would say you are not responsible for, but given the laws in you state I would pay the fee and deal with her after. Whe you pay the fee, type of something that refers to your contract and what she is apparently changing now. Give the pmt and remove your horses. Deal with her after your horses are safe and in your hands.

I never thought of that. I would just go in one day when she is not expecting or not there take my horses and be gone. Pay what you think you owe her and let her take you to small claims
