Unhappy Pilgrim is sick! :(

My horse Pilgrim isnt doing soo well..The last week he has been coughing a little bit..not much at all..and he acted fine. We thought it was just from the dust or allergies..There has been alot of dust at the place were I board because there has been no rain latey..but anways..Everyday we watched him and he looked like he was doing better. Then, Yesterday I got on to ride him and he coughed a couple of times!..I tried to lope him a little bit and he weezed a little bit not that much..so I stopped riding him. Then, that eveing(last night) he was acting different..like he wasnt feelling good and he was coughing alot... Soo...tomorrow morning we are taking him to the vet..I hope he will be ok.. Does any one have any suggestions to what it would be?

It could be dust, allergies, or bad stall management. It could also be something more serious like copd or heaves.

You could try wetting his hay and putting it in a haybag to get rid of dust from food, and you can give him anti-histamines to help the cough go away.

I wouldn't do anything at all by way of meds until the vet sees him. Also antihistamines will only work if this is being produced by some type of allergen.

And, in my area at least, antihistimines will only be prescribed after the vet see's your horse anyways.

I really hope that it turns out to be minor dust irritation... however do be prepared to hear that it is something such as heaves. It sounds a lot like minor heaves to me, but at the same time, it could just as well be allergies, a cold, irritation... so don't panic, but DO get to the vet to be sure.
