Pigeon fever.....hits here now

Great, something we rarely see in this area, is affecting my boarding barn. (NOW I remember why I dislike boarding so much....UGH)

one hosre has busted already from what I find out (just found out today more than one horse is affected....THANKS for the heads up...UGH)

And.....I bring Blister in...and his stifle area is all BUBBLED up. Mess with it, sure enough, it is an abcess forming. Going to give it about 24-48 hrs probably, and going to bust it. (vet ok'd already)

So now he's stalled and I'll have to go out daily now. So much for riding today.

Poor thing. All eaten up by the other horses, and lame enough not to be able to get away (intermittantly...which is the other reason we feel it is the fever and not an actual kick injury...)

got pics...hold up.

Scratch the question that was here....NM.

Ditto on those questions, it sounds familiar but I can't place it. But poor boy...hopefully things start going better for him (and you ) soon!

PIGEON FEVER in Horses

Blister is doing better. He's moving today more.

In a way, the position is BAD because it is much tender area.....however, my vet said I lucked out on my horse being "WEIRD" because he drained last night a bit, from moving. The movement of that area is going to help us in the long run.....with draining.

I lanced it last night, nto enough to clear it....today we are going to open it up and totally clear it and clean it out. The area is bad for us...but good for Blister cause he'll keep it draining and with movement, help keep the hole from sealing off like it would in the chest area.

Just a bad place to "Treat" and a much more painful area to work with.

So blister is going to go to lala land so we can get this done.
