WASHINGTON (AP) -- An undercover video taken at an Iowa pig farm shows workers hitting sows with metal rods, slamming piglets on a concrete floor and bragging about jamming rods up into sows' hindquarters.

I hate them. These [expletives] deserve to be hurt. Hurt, I say!," the employee yells as he hits a sow with a metal rod. "Hurt! Hurt! Hurt! Hurt! ... Take out your frustrations on 'em." He encourages the investigator to pretend that one of the pigs scared off a voluptuous and willing 17- or 18-year-old girl, and then beat the pig for it.

At one point in the video, workers are shown slamming piglets on the ground, a practice designed to instantly kill those baby pigs that aren't healthy enough. But on the video, the piglets are not killed instantly, and in a bloodied pile, some piglets can be seen wiggling vainly. The video also shows piglets being castrated, and having their tails cut off, without anesthesia.

Hormel spokeswoman Julie Henderson Craven on Tuesday called the abuses "completely unacceptable."

That was the most sickening thing I've ever seen! I totally agree that this isn't about PETA, it's animal abuse at it's worst! Those men deserve that metal rod taken to them. I used to buy hormel products, I won't anymore.

Some of it was abuse, some of it wasn't. Since when do piglets recieve anesthetic to be banded, clipped, or have their tails cut? For that matter, human baby boys don't always recieve anesthetic to have the foreskin cut off their penis.

I dont see how people can call it "propagandist". It was on the NEWS and it was clearly happening in thie video

Whenever people go and blame peta for whats on some of the vids I always think they are denying what actually happens. Mostly cause they are selfish and want to continue eating their pork without guilt.
Seriously though, what happens in those factory farms does indeed happen. Not saying that everything peta says is the sole truth, but peta arent the only ones disgusted by the activities of factory farms.

Some of its abuse and inexcusable some is very normal in the hog industry and if your going to stop eating Hormel products because of this video you better stop eating pork altogether.

Just curious but how do all of you dock piglets tails, casterate, and clip needle teeth?

I worked at a pig farm...saw some things I didnt like. I didnt watch the video, but let me say this, its not a job for the faint hearted.

Some people have miserable lives and find that abusing another live thing makes them feel better.
The mentality has always boggled my mind. I cannot for the life of me figure out what they get out of doing that kind of thing..... they are sick for sure.

I do know the above is done without anesthetic (sp?), but ramming rods up their behinds, beating them just to beat them is just gross. The ill runt piglets shouldn't be wacked and then left to die, can't they do it a better, more efficient way?

I'll keep raising my own meat, at least they are treated humanely right up to the end.
