Post Pictures from the past two weekends

I finally got them scanned!

This is the really slow appy. He completely stopped about three strides after that picture.

Another of the appy

Last one of the big slow horse that definately did not need that kimberwicke.

This is me the day before. I bit more fun to ride, but the saddle was too big.

I finally got the timing down on my camara! Still didn't turn out the greatest. This is Whitney, another girl on the team.

Another of Whitney.

Whitney on the flat the first day.

And the next day.

Yeah, we only had three riders at that show. Those were all at Maryville college. I'm going to respond back with the pics from Sewanee.

This one is of Grey at Maryville, I forgot to add it on.

Whitney on the flat.

Whitney over fences. (Just in case you didn't notice that the horse is jumping.)

Me, can't tell though. That's a bad shadow.

Whitney jumping.

Grey, she's riding the same horse I did in the pic two above.

This is why I don't ride Arabs. It just doesn't look like. There are a lot of pics to commemorate the occasion though, lol. My stirrups were way too long as well.

You would not believe how hard it is to ride a horse you know nothing about. Particularly if the tack doesn't fit.

Dawn,
I am sorry to see that your experience with an Arabian at your last show was not a positive one.
They are really wonderful horses! I do hope that you will be able to experience that for yourself sometime soon in the future! Please do not judge the breed as a whole from the experience you had with that one.
I have found that Arabians are very intelligent and respond best when "asked" and not "told." They are sensitive to the slightest of aids and that does lead people to mistake that sensitivity and responsiveness for spookiness or them being stubborn when they are really confused by the riders signals.
If they trust you they will give you 110% and even more if asked!
I know that before I had any first hand knowledge about the breed I thought they were beautiful, but really crazy, had no substance and really were good for nothing but looking pretty. Now having been the owner and trainer of several Purebreds as well as partbreds I can speak from first hand experience that it takes an entirely different approach, feel, and way of thinking to work with and ride an Arabian.
They really are nothing like the other breeds...but then again we are supposed to approach each horse as an individual aren't we... wink
Please get to know the breed better and I am sure you will be surprised at just how wonderful and versatile the Arabian Horse is!
While they might not be your dream or ideal breed I do think that you will agree that they are just as athletic, smart, fun and wonderful as all the other breeds of equines are too!
Good luck with your next competition and I hope the horses you draw are just super!!!!

Actually, my friend used to have an older Arabian. We used to ride him around bareback in the fields. He was pretty cool.

The ummm second horse I believe I ever rode after I started getting serious was my trainers arab. He's, oh say, 17.1 hands I think? Something like that. Looking back on it, he was probably a bit too much horse for me at the time. (He's the one I was riding in that post about helmets a couple of days ago.)

On the normal sized arabs, I just don't look right. I just naturally look better on a larger horse, and I feel much more secure on a broader horse.

I also went back and rode the larger arab this past summer. I can handle him now, but he's not as docile as I would like. I was doing a beautiful collected canter with him. Gorgeous (of course not what I was supposed to be doing, it was supposed to be leg yield at the trot, lol.) I'm riding along, the saddle slips off completely underneath him. I'm still sitting on top. How does that happen? Oh well, I guess my Arab experiences haven't been great, but I am still open to them! I know I hate it when people judge TB's. So I try not to do the same thing with other breeds.

I completely agree with you Sandra-A1, they are wonderful and fun to ride. NOW keep in mind she is riding "school" or personal owned horses that are not "GREAT" quality show horses and seem to have some issues. Riding horses for IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) is a great experience but most of the arabians during these shows DO NOT represent the breed!!! I have rode arabs in those shows that will KILL YOU, yet I have rode lots of QH's that will kill you too! TRUST ME as I was born and raised Arabs.. yes I know you probably don't believe that wink

Sounds like Dawn needs to come visit you in alabama wink Road Trip!!!!!!
