Smile Pictures from Spear's First Show!

We trailered to the show at Saxonburg this weekend. Spear and I had Friday and Saturday to school and this morning was our class.

On Friday and Saturday, I had AMAZING rides. Spear was fabulous, didn't refuse one fence, and by some miracle my position on the flat and over fences was the best it's ever been! I was so proud of him for doing so well, we were jumping some bigger fences as well. It was great!

Then this morning my class rolled around. Yuck. I'm REALLY competitive and, unfortunately, Spear had different ideas. He thought the jumper fences were uber scary and we had a rough first go and ended up being DQ'd from refusals. Needless to say, I was fuming mad afterward. I took him back to the schooling ring and came back much more aggressive (trust me, he needs it). We made it around with only one refusal the second trip. He was tired, it was a long weekend and even though the actual class didn't go as well as I was hoping, he schooled like a superstar. So I have no doubts that he's got the talent, he's just so green at this point and needs some more experience. Same goes for me, it was my first time doing jumpers and I'm not sure if I like it. I think I may do hunters or EQ next time and see how we fair. Overall, I'm very happy with my boy! We leave for State College on Tuesday.

Enough of my blabbering on, without further ado I present you with your Spear fix of the day!

My goodness he is such a big boy!! Sounds like overall, you had a great schooling experience. They always seem to do awesome the day(s) BEFORE the show then be goobers on actual show day. It figures! You two make a nice looking team though, that's for sure!

You didn't fall, you didn't leave the ring in tears. Sounds like a not so bad day at the show to me.

Thanks everyone! DG, I love his mane in that one too, haha! I'm not entirely sure if he was shaking his head, or the wind was blowing, or what happened!

Chester, I about cried after the first round. Pulled it together for the second. Then, after I cooled him off and went back to the stall, I did cry for a while. I was more angry at myself for not being aggressive enough to get what I wanted out of him and also just me being the competitive person that I am it's never easy for me to walk away knowing I had a sub-par performance. After I let loose some tears I was good to go for the rest of the day though!
