I think the reason why people think that you are such a great human is because you are actually doing everything possible to make this horse healthy and comfortable..static is very lucky to have you as his owner...

I'm going today to buy a bottle of Dormosodan, because I need something much stronger than ACE. I think that I am also going to level his stall, then put rubber mats to help with dust, stress to his legs, and possible infection. I was told that vitamin C is good to help healing. Anyone use it? Know of a good product?

Equilite makes a great vitamin C product. Equilite, Inc. - Citrus C/Q - Equine Health Supplement - Product Details - holistic equine herbs and natural horse supplements and essences

Equine Relief makes a good wound wash that doesn't burn... my Pony skinned her front leg from her knee down to her pastern on a barbed wire fence years ago... wrapping, drugging, cleaning, scrubbing, wrapping, drugging... you know the drill.

I've been following Statics story, and I realize you have a knockout team working on him, providing him the best of care. If you're at a point where you want to consider a few alternatives (in combination with the care you are already providing), please Private Message me and I will do my best to help you out. I'm not a vet, but I've dealt with a similar injury, and I if you're not ready to give up on him, I understand.

Remember to take care of yourself through all this,
A.

That looks like a great supplement. I bought a different one before reading your post, but may try that one when I finish the one I found. Should I start him on some type of gastro med to protect his stomach from damage from C? He was on Gastroaide when he was heavily medicated, but I took him off of it a couple of weeks ago.

UlcerGard works well. It's the same as GastroGard (Rx) only 1/4 the strength. The recommended dosage is 1/4 tube daily- I would use 1/2 a tube on Static, unless he's eating quite a bit of hay (i.e. constantly grazing).

Both medications are Omeprazole, which is the active ingredient in the now non-prescription human Prilosec. Do not be tempted to give him these instead, they are compounded differently do be absorbed into a horse or human body, respectivly.

It's not cheap (~$40 a tube). Contact Valley Vet, KV, etc to see if you can get bulk pricing.

Oh, I also will be re-wrapping him tonight. Got the Dormosodan, and will try to do a better job with wraps. Will post pics later.

And husband has apologized. He said that he was just angry because I woke him up at three in the morning to hold up a horse's leg. Makes me feel a little better, but still have not accepted apology yet. I was a little to hurt by the things that he said about the horse after all of the work that I have done.

I actually have a case of Gastroguard on order with my vets. We use it often on our competition animals to prevent ulcers caused by stress. I like the gastroaide because it can be bought by the gallon. So I DO need something for his stomach if I use Vit. C??

I'm not sure in relation to the vit. C, but in regards to his entire situation, yes he does need to have some type of preventative care in regards to ulcers.

I'm glad to hear that hubby apologized.

Thanks, Dawn, I really didn't think about the stress of being cooped up in that stall for the last two months! Can't believe I was so forgetfull. Thankfully, he hasn't been off of it for that long.
