I read your other thread but thought I'd add my thoughts on the newest one.

If he was adopted from the BLM and he's not 'legally' yours for one full year (as per their policy), you would not have his papers, which you said you do. The lowest adoption fee for the BLM is $125. That is for straight adoption as well as for bidding. I looked through everything I could find and asked some people, and no word of that being changed.

Did you really have a legal setup to keep him in? That is just extremely rare for someone to alreay have set up.

My other concern is that it has been confirmed for me that the BLM does not have a pregentling program. There are interest groups that do this and even go so far as to saddle break the horses then adopt them out. But it is not the BLM. And the adoption fees are rather high. Obviously more than the minimum $125 that they had to pay to adopt them initially.

I've spoken with some people today that are very active with the BLM. And unless they've had a major policy overhaul in the past few days (literally 3-4 days) this wasn't a legitimate blm adoption.

Have you checked his brand against the papers? My biggest concern would be that you got either another horse's papers or 'faked' papers.

Reno was initially adopted through the Eastern States as well. They do follow the exact same procedures as the auctions in the western states.

He is very cute. I would be worried about his weight though. Just plain grass hay will be fine for him. I definately wouldn't push the Strategy. One he doesn't need it. Two, he's probably never had grain before and the last thing you need is a semily tame horse colicing on you.

Dawn, he looks a little overweight to me too, but not too bad. We are finishing up on a corral that's 24 x 36 feet & he can go in & out of the stall from it. We will be finished with it tomorrow. I will not feed him grain at all unless I see him losing weight, then only a little, if he will eat it. I just wanted to see what he would do with it.
Maybe someone else had him for awhile & sent him back, I don't know, but I have all his health records & a form that I will send in after I've had him a year & after a vet has approved me for his official adoption. There is a copy of a vet check that has his exact description & the dates of everything he's ever had done. Please don't tell me his adoption wasn't legitimate! I mean, these people had BLM uniforms & jackets on!
