Hello everyone, Here are the updated pics for the filly I asked everyone before what color is she going to be. I think her base color may change to a darker color, bay possibly? Reason I think so is a QH filly that was born here a couple years back was a sandy brown color and shed out to be a dark bay. She also had started out just showing like a dorsel stripe, then the tips of her ears, and around the eyes..... etc. Anyhow thats what I am thinking what does everyone else think?? Thanks! Those are new pictures? How old is she in them? What color are her eyes and is her skin pink? Look under her tail and udder, around her eyes.... just curious. Most foals' skin darkens up really soon after birth. Do you have any pics of the sire and dam? I still think chestnut with countershading. If she was a bay then her mane and tail should be black |

Interesting...looks like a sorrel (or chestnut) w/ dun factor! Though he could very well change color's! Sometimes colors are SO crazy, you never know whats going to happen! lol. If you are unsure you can send in pics with her registration papers and let the association decide (in our case AQHA). We had a filly born last year...chestnut w/ a dorsal. Not countershading a DORSAL....sent in pics to AQHA they registered her as a chestnut, under markings they had Dorsal Stripe. Same with a bay that we had...he as well had a dorsal. (Both of these horses were out of our palomino/dunalino mare...who when bred to a bucksin had that bay w/ a dorsal, and when bred to a grulla had the chestnut w/ a dorsal.) What color are sire and dam? |

Here are some countershading stripe examples COUNTERSHADING is a form of the Sooty / Smutty gene which mimics the dorsal stripe associated with Dun: ![]() left: countershading stripe on a buckskin; Many "linebacked bays" have this stripe - are lacking in any other dun characteristics right: true dun dorsal stripe The true dorsal will continue into the tail head on a dun |

looks like she might be turning into a bay or a dun sis.
