Is it a strong dorsal stripe or is he a lineback? What color is the rest of his tail?

Could it be a coon tail? What breeding does he have, and what color was his sire?

Rabicano gives the silver or white hairs in the tail like that.

A picture of his stripe would help. Does it run very clearly defined from withers to tail? Or is it a bit fuzzy and fades out at the ends?

PS, it could well be a silver bay. The Z gene causes the color trait. It is being identified more and more in AQHA horses. This is a silver bay:

In October of 2002 Silver was confirmed in Quarter Horses. As with Morgans, it was confirmed by red factor testing. Bar U Champ Binder is the first confirmed Silver Bay in the Quarter Horse breed. If you visit Bar U Champ Binder's web site you can see some of his offspring which are also silver.

Go to Equine Color - Horse & Pony Color Genetics Information to see a picture of him.
