*PICS ADDED*Mini hoof question

I do not know much about the hooves of horses yet, so please bare with me...Next to the frog on my mini's hooves (the "groove") is really deep, is this normal for minis? None of my other big horses have this...?

His feet are really dry for some reason, but I am taking care of that. Here are pics...

It really depends. But if it is 'too' deep, then you're probably looking at heels that are too high.

The other option is that you're used to looking at clefts that are too shallow.

I will get some pictures soon. It does not affect him at all, but when we got him his feet were in horrible condition. They were super long and all chipped, but we have a great farrier and he helped a ton.

How many trims has he had?

You might not realize that it affects him, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't. It could be things that you don't relate. Or it could be things that you wouldn't recognize until they were gone.

Or it could be completely normal!

Yes, you are right. He has only technically had one, but his feet were so bad that they had to trim and rasp them 4 different times

Then it could very well just be one of those things that takes time to correct. His heels could have been so tall that they could only be taken down a certain amount in one trim. Or they might be very contracted, and that will take time as well.
