Question Picking a stallion for my TB mare; want to help?

Next year I'm going to breed my dad's TB mare but I'm not quite sure what I want yet. She has very nice bloodlines, being a granddaughter of the great Seattle Slew on her sire's side and then having lines tracing to War Admiral on her dam's. My trainer has a nice Tb stallion but he's only 15hh and bay; my mare is 16.2hh and bay also. I was hoping for something with a bit of color so I was considering a Paint or Colored Warmblood/TB or some sort. Cali, the mare, has a tiny, thin neck(as you can see) and a bulky head, but lovely hindquarters. I want to capture those hindquarters but try and get a more sculpted head and obviously lengthen the neck. So far I like http://www.2saddlesranch.com/stallionpage.html &
http://www.redfoxfarmtx.com/starinfo.html

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!! I want to find the perfect stud so I'm looking early in hopes of booking in advance.

I really like the first one. I think the paint will commend her the best out of the 2.

I agree with Barnbum17. The paint, in my opinion, would be the best decision. He's beautiful and so is your mare. Besides, tall paints are so beautiful and always attract a lot of attention if you have them around. Just as my paint gelding. He's gorgeous and he knows it.

I agree with the other two. I'd say go with the paint. He looks very nice, and I think he'd compliment your mare very nicely...

Ok, Have you thought about EVERYTHING included in breeding? Costs for the stud fee, all the vet stuff, if something goes wrong? Have you thought about or looked into genetics? Not only in your mare and the stallion, but in their dams and sire and even thier grand sires and grand dams? Its not just for color, but for diseases, and conformation problems. You may not get what you want in your foal..the foal may end up with a bulky head and an even thinner neck..or end up with the same conformation as your mare, now,I think your mare is a very pretty girl but i dont want the foal to end up exactly the same if thats not what you want.

With that said, If you have thought about what i have said and everything else in breeding, I think that the paint would compliment your mare more. Have you thought about breeding her to an arab? They COULD give you refinement in the foal head..also you could register the foal with the half arab registry. Here are a few stallions I like, that could complement your mare nicely...

chestnut arab(SETANEM )

Pinto Warmblood(Sempatico)

Pinto Arab(Jordache I )

I have not looked too far back into her pedigree so I will look into that; that was some wonderful advice by the way about genetics. As for costs, I'm completely aware of how much it will cost because I wanted to breed her earlier this year but I thought it out and bought a couple foals instead, therefore buying my family and I some time. I am completely aware of the fact that complications may arise but luckily, I have two very experienced horse women who live on my street(both have delivered foals before and w/o them, I probably wouldn't be even considering this). As far as conformation goes, my sister and I are western gamers ie barrel racers and obviously Cali isn't . I used to do English quite a few years back and I bought her in hopes of starting up again. I live in an area with numerous jumping/dressage barns and am going to enlist their help with Cal and her possible foal. I could always breed her to a QH for another barrel racer, but I absolutely love her TB looks and the idea of riding English again. I don't want her foal to be perfect in any way because I won't even be here to really train it, but I want to get into breeding and know that she'd be a nice start. Also, she's Jockey Club and the Arab idea....are Half-Arabs really popular? I might end up selling the foal so I need a stud that will produce a nice colt/filly for us. I liked the second stud I chose because the foal could be reg. AQHA & APHa. I'll look into the studs you provided right now and again, thank you for your help!

Breeding to a registered purebred Arabian stallion will allow you to register the resulting foal as a Half Arabian but breeding the the Pinto Half Arabian Jordache I will not. No matter the percentage of Arabian blood in the horse it will never be considered a purebred by the AHA and will always be a Half Arabian. Half Arabian Stallions will not produce a AHA registered Half Arabian foal unless they are bred to registered purebred Arabian mares.
The resulting foal from a breeding to Jordache I will only be eligible for registration (and only with the PtHA) if the Stallion is PtHA registered and the foal has the pinto coloring.

If your considering breeding to a Paint or Pinto stallion breed to one that is "pinto homozygous" for the spotted coloring. That way you will get a colorful foal!
Also there are lots of AQHA stallions who have and pass on a lovely head to their get.

Just do your homework and talk to the stallion owners as they are in position to tell you if their stallion will nick well with your mare as well as what registration and incentive programs their stallion's get are eligible for. Registration along with the other programs are important aids in case you ever want or need to sell the foal. While there are some Stallion Owners who will breed their stallion to anything...you will find that most do want to have a satisfied mare owner and a super looking foal by their stallion on the ground.

Before you look anywhere you really need to check out these stallions. Proven--colour and from the "grapevine" excellent farm to deal with.

Uh, very much doubt that is a 5' oxer........looks more like 3' or 3'3" to me...... most standards are 4-5' tall, and your pole is only just a touch more than half way up. Just thought I'd point that out.
