I do it every day.

We ride on grass or in the arena, but the walkway is made up of large gravel, basically just rocks. I'm paranoid that a rock will get stuck in his hoof (its happened before, but I caught it before I turned him out) and he becomes sore on it.

I also almost didn't pick his hooves once, and decided to check, and sure enough, there was a stick poking into his hoof. Not much, but enough that it could have gotten worse had I not taken it out.

Moral of the story? No feet, no horse

I do it before & after I ride always. So if I have been riding a lot, Blaze's feet get cleaned a lot. When I am not riding, and the other horses that I do not ride, they don't get cleaned very often. I know, horrible.

I should do it more but my first trainer never picked hooves or had me do them when I first started so I dont really have it "engraved" in my brain lol.

I try to do Felix and Jackson's more often but sometimes its very rarely
But, it goes with grooming and I never groom my horses either. I usually just sweep them off with the brush before a ride and sometimes brush Jackson when he seems depressed lol.
I don't see my horse daily, about 4 times a week unless I have time off but everytime I go out to see her I pick her feet.

I have always thought of it that way so i tend to do it everyday, and definatlety every time a ride. I also clean out the middle of their feet well once a week, maybe less, and i oil their frogs with special frog cream!
i don't think i could afford for my horses to go lame for not doing something as little as picking outtheir feet!

!!
Frog Cream? I have never heard of that. What is it?

Same for me... sometimes I've thought about not picking her feet before I put her in her stall again, but then it's like... ! What if she has something lodged in there?! And so I pick them My first trainer made me pick feet before & after every time I rode, so it's kind of a habit now.

I'm also curious as to the frog cream... what does it do? I've never heard of it.

Cat and Minot's feet get picked out every night when I let them in the barn (even when it has been dry, just in case there is a random stone or something in there).

It's the first thing I do when I am getting ready to ride. I only do it before rides, not everyday.

You need to pick hooves and thouroughly groom every time to ride. Not doing so can seriously put your horses health in jepordy.
