i was told about the goats milk as well. i was told it is the closest thing to mare's milk you can get. i know a lady with some goats, and i am going to call her and ask to see if maybe wed. when i go back to huntsville, if she can't milk them and freeze it for me. well, would it be ok if it were frozen??? for at least a day or 2? any help with his care is greatly appreciated!

Just a note on the goats milk... if you are able to, try and get Nubian goat milk... nubians have milk the closest to a mare's (cream, fat content etc..) We use to actually raise Nubians for their milk specifically for a few horse farms who bought the milk as a supplement for their foals.
I'm still praying for your little Toby and hope he pulls through soon!

Our neighbor had a mare that coliced 2 days after foaling and had to be put down. She rented a couple of goats from a guy that raises them and mixed the goat milk with foal lac - she couldn't get the hang of milking them - so for about three weeks my daughter and I would go over every morning and night to milk the goats.
That foal (a Paint) is now about 5 years old and is over 16 hands, so being bucket fed didn't slow his growth at all.
I still remember those middle of the night feedings when they had to go out of town!!! I guess that is what being a good neighbor & friend is all about.
