I can say this stallion went through the 90 day inspectionprocess in europe, where they are much stricter, and was approved for the studbook, so I'm inclined to believe their opinion of him.
Oh no I wanst critiquing I just was wondering if overweight can cause his chest to look like that... ??

Lilrider- I don't think she was talking to you specifically. I believe it was someone else who stated outright about his conformation.

Lindsay- yay a babyyyy! Im thinking of you and Lucy, I hope she takes. I can't wait to see pics of this baby! Friesian and curly should make a beautiful cross!

Why don't you breed to Pure Bred registered Curies now instead of out crossing? wouldn't they be worth more anyway? It is a little late now, but I was just wondering what the benifit was for the cross.

No. They wouldn't be worth more. Friesians are worth a lot as is, but a hypoallergenic one with curly AND Friesian traits? I'd see that foal as being worth more than just a purebred Curly. Plus, the foal CAN be registered.

My new Friesian cross is an extremely easy keeper and although she is being worked 3 days a week is still on the tubby side. She gets no grain and gets limited hay and pasture and still has a tummy. The current owner thinks even with 5-6 work outs per week she still might not need grain. So maybe being an easy keeper is a Friesian trait.
I know Friesian crosses have A LOT of value especially in the Midwest (where I am from). Even yearling crosses can go in the $4-6k range and when they are broke they range from $5-10K. Plus curlies themselves are rare so it seems like a smart idea...just my 2 cents. Although maybe I am biased having just purchased a cross myself

If pictures were posted of our horses looking like that, I would be furious...Our stallions are never are in that bad of shape, but none the less out of respect to the owner and the stallion himself I think I would remove them. Again not trying to be rude...

I actually feel sorry for him, nobody feels good being in that bad of shape, and obviously he once did do a great deal of work....

Good Luck getting her in foal.

LA, I'm glad you're happy with your breeding choice. I would NOT post these photos of this boy or use them to show potential foal buyers because, in THESE photos, this boy APPEARS to have many different issues. Ask the owners for photos from when this boy was in good shape and passed insepction!

If I owned this boy I'd die if photos like this were posted on the internet because of the highly unfavorable impression it makes of this guy. Of course if I owned this boy he'd not be allowed to BE in this poor of condition either... I really feel bad for this stud. I am sure he was once a lovely lovely boy.

One thing I"m wondering and it's something you might want to consider since you are going to have a foal (hopefully, lol) out of him... Has he been tested for IR??? He really looks like he may be prone to IR and it is not uncommon in Friesens, it can also explain the low labido tendancies... OR perhaps low thyroid ... just things to consider...

Hopefully you'll get the curly coat and the fancy movement combo!

Half curlies are hypoallergenic? I wasn't aware of that?

I thought (and I don't know much about them, so keep that in mind) that the principles were similar to poodles, and half poodles aren't hypoallergenic.

It depends I am assuming on whether or not they inherit the curl gene. You can breed a heterozygous (one cul and one noncurl gene) to a non curly breed and end up with a foal that inherits one noncurl gene from each parent and ends up with a straight coat and no curly characteristics.

OR you can get the curly gene from one and the non curl from the other resulting in another heterozygous foal.

Lusy is believed to be HomoZygous for curl (maximum curly) and can only pass the curly gene...

Whew! Lindsayanne...did I get that right?? I tried!
