| Senior Member+ | Penny Bred - Cross Your Fingers! Plus some Questions
Alright, so Penny was bred yesterday and today. She had a very open cervix and some good follicles, so we feel alot better about this breeding than the last one. Hopefully we will have a a bouncing healthy baby born on May 14, 2008 (one day before Penny's 16th birthday :] ) or as early as April 27, 2008 at 326 when she had her baby in 2007. Now, the questions: 1. As some of you know, Penny's foal didn't make it last year due to some sort of problem with the placenta last in the term. Regardless, is day 326 still within normal parameters? I believe 320 is considered the "safe" time? 2. Once again shipping her. I'm so nervous about moving Penny while she is so "fresh" from being bred. She would be trailered 3 hours only a week after she was bred. She trailers very well, but I've heard that one should generally wait 45 days before transporting a mare. Stories of your experiences transporting freshly bred mares would be wonderful.

I can't really help with your questions, but I just had to say that my old mare Dakota's birthday is on May 14th

Well, can't say I can offer much advice about trailering or how many days, but I am sending baby vibes your way!

Yes 326 can be within normal range but every mare is different. Some can foal before the 320 mark and the babies are just fine and some foal well after and they are not. I am sure Penny will know just how long to cook this baby this year. If she trailers well I would not be too concerned about hauling her 3 hrs. I transported both of my mares last year more than 2 hrs within a week of being bred and I have two bouncy foals this year.

Same here, brought Sage home a week after she was bred (2 hour traveling time), and have a happy and healthy foal!
