Pearl update pics....

Well, I figured I'd give Pearl her own thread instead of adding them onto Jacinta's thread.

She is getting her black eyeliner, just like a girl should..lol. She was born with DARK blue eyes and still has them. Wonder if they will turn brown or stay blue??? Time will tell. They are so dark blue that they look entirely black in many pics without any distinction between iris and pupil.
Pic at 6 days old.

This one shows the blue, it is hard to get a pic that shows it well. Pic at 13 days old.

Pics at 3 days old.... Pearl was born at 9.2 hands, a nice size for a just barely 15 hh mare. I am 5'9" tall so you can see how big of a girl she is at 3 days old!

Pics at 4 days..

you can see her blue eye in this pic...

Pics at 6 days, she is starting to really eat and her darker color is coming in where she used to be pink, like around her eyes and her butt parts which is kinda cute with its part silver/black and part pink color...lol.....

Pics at 13 days ( March 31)

Will update pics for a couple months, just to see her changes in color and growth.

She is a palomino. Her dad is a cremello. I am hoping she will be a bit darker than she is now, but we will have to wait and see....lol.
Thanks for the compliments, I think she is pretty special myself, but then, I'm prejudiced.

Yeah, only time will tell about her eyes. LOL.. the coat she is wearing is my Doberman's winter coat. It is made by Weatherbetta, I got it from a tack shop that also sells coats for dogs...the weatherbetta foal coat I got for Pearl was a tad to large in the girthing when she was born, the girthing is a clip on and not a Velcro type and it was just enough too loose to let it slip on Pearl, and it was so cold out the night she was born I was a bit nervous about leaving her without a coat and then remembered my doberman's coat. Soooo, I put it on her and it fit like a charm...lol. Now I use it on the days that she needs only a "light" coat and at nights in the barn, and use the actual foal weatherproof coat on colder, windier days. I think it looks awful cute on her too.

Aw, she's so pretty! There's a lot of palomino foals this year, I love yours. Can't wait for more pictures!

Her skin and eyes are the natural progression of many palominos. Both will turn dark, same color as her mom's skin and eyes. Staying blues are much brighter.

Gorgeous filly! Who is her sire?

LOL... yes, I know the color progression is natural, I just thought it would be neat for those who don't know/or haven't seen it, to see the neat progression of the color on her butt end. Of course, it is darker and more progressed now, in fact, it is just about all colored in.

I am not 100% sure about the eyes, I would not be surprised if they changed to brown, but everything I have read about blue eyes on newborn palomino's says that it is not unusual for them to be born with light blue eyes which start to change within a few weeks to a normal brown. And that a palomino can have green, hazel, black eyes and that rarely can have dark blue eyes that look black. So, even though I expect that they will most likely turn brown, I am waiting to see if/when they do start to change. But regardless if they stay dark blue or change to brown..... I LOVE this girl!!!!!

"Blue eye; "True Blue Eye" This is a true deep dark Blue all over, and it is the rarest eye colour in horses. It may be so dark as to appear black with no pupil or rich midnight blue."

I don't know the sire's pedigree, regretfully. He was one of the seizure horses (a stallion at that time, of course) that was with this mare and 3 other mares. I know that the person paid a good amount of money for him, can't remember how many thousands, but it was at least four, I just remember that it was a lot of money and she was making payments on him. He is registered and has papers, as does this mare and all the other horse, but all the papers are still with the previous "owner", if you want to call someone who starves and totally neglects her horses an owner!?

This is the sire... he is, of course, gelded now, and has a loving home. I hope to get some nice pics of him this summer. He was still a little underweight and under-muscled in the pics I have of him.

Wow... I guess I have never seen a navy eye before then. I'm used to the bright blue caused by the pinto genes that doesn't change.

Even in that condition, the sire is very handsome. I can see where she gets part of her looks!

What a beautiful girl Pearl is!!! Keep the pics coming! It's like looking at Teak all over again...

Teak's eyes were a lighter blue than Pearl's... they changed slowly up until he was a year old. Now they're a very light (beautiful) brown. Not the normal dark brown

I'm so mad at myself that I didn't get pics of his eyes when he was little. I only have like one pic that shows his blue eyes.

She's beautiful! I've never seen a really dark navy blue eye either. I hope she does keep them.
