PDP - First Foal on the Ground. Finally!

Darla and I have been talking at length about her foal. I've spent the past few months watching the majority of you have your foals, and yes I was happy when mine was due. May 8th according to the foaling calculator and her last day of breeding. However I've done my dardest to be patient and wait for the bun in the oven to come out.

I was at work today and got a phone call around 3 from my mother. So... when were you gonna tell me you had a grey stud colt out here. It was shock and silence. Seriously? I have a grey colt? Yep, he doesn't look that old but I'm going to go out and iodine him for you. So for the final 20 minutes of work I was on pins and needles to get home and meet my baby. People probably thought I was weird dancing around, but hey, these are my version of children.

He has plenty of leg, although so big they go in all directions and I've had to help him nurse. He is getting stronger though and has been up and down. He know's were food is, but is having a heck of a time getting those stumps to work. So friendly. Gosh I couldn't ask for a better momma or a better baby. I admit I was a little hesitant on how Darla would be. Whether she would be a sharing mom, or one of those mares that freak out and run off with the foal if you get within 100 yards. I've been checking her bag right along and she's been cool about it so I figured she'd probably be a pretty mellow mom. Colt has already figured out he loves scratches especially on his neck and chest. I think he's a keeper, for now. we'll see. He has to unfold, put some body on and I'll decide what his future is with some time.

I'm hashing over names right now. I want a powerful name, but Mom asked me whether I think he's stud material... Honestly, hard to determine when your baby is wobbly, over at the knee, weak through the pasterns, cowhocked, and no necked. So I might wait a little while on a name for him. His sire is Windermere's In Command, 17.2hh. His dam is N&R Car-Phan Darla, 16.3hh Lone Oak Phantom daughter.

Show plans show plans here I come!

He only has a little white star, but gosh I love that face and those ears.
I'll be sure and keep photo's updated so check back.

I would be wobbly to if I had to try to control those long legs.
What a handsome fella and mommy is beautiful.
Congrats on a healthy birth!

Thank you everybody for the kind comments. I've finally came up with a name for my colt. Going to go with Zephyr - been calling him Z or Zeke. He is such a sweetie. I didn't want to go with Dan, ****, Joe, Bob, or Jack .... ummm no. Boooring. If my little guy had stayed black, I had a few german names picked out. Wasn't to be though. I like grey.

I'm sooo happy with him though. I just did his tail yesterday. Uck. I hate doing them but he was a good boy about it. He doesn't hate me. Yet.. wait until halter breaking comes up. Have to get the vets out and Darla around. She has to go back to visit the stallion and there are a bunch of things she needs before she goes. I'm glad Commander is now at a better facility that at least care's about the welfare of my mare.

I'll get some new photo's of Z tomorrow and post them up. Somebody asked Percheron... yep you bet!

Now you said that you just did his tail. What is it that you did? Could you please send Z to me. And yes, up to date pictures are a must.
