The thread was going fine I posted "who are parents and breed" you already new before finding out that and ACC asked the same question as I did after the fact. Everyone gave their opinon like myself .

No one knew who the parents were until much later. So I dont quite understand what you mean by this?

Nope not invented, but I do know them VERY well especially splash. One of the most common theories about Splash is that it will be much louder in homozygous form than heterozygous form. THAT is why I stated that I would guarantee homozygous splash. I never said everyone should or that everyone would but that I would.

I then posted 5 pages later than asked a simple question to Canadian sage. She even was questionable. So are you new to the board I joined a month after you and never had to post with anyone in this manner.

You have a lot less posts than I do, and less people know you on this board. So it does appear that you are new.

NOBODY knows everything and we can all learn from oneanother and give sound advice and opinons with out being so "DEFINATE" instead of being openminded.

Genetics arent exactly something open to interpretation. And I already posted why I thought she was homozygous splash, and I actually have a REASON to say it, and knowledge to back it up.

Because as common theory is right now you dont need parents to see homozygous splash. Its like a double dilute. Splash is thought to be an incomplete dominant, if its loud its homozygous if its minimal its heterozygous. Just like a DD. You dont need to see parents to see a cremello perlino or smokey cream and know they are double dilute.

Debbie Z., the "truth" is a relative thing and changes with our knowledge of genetics.

For example, it was once thought that two chestnuts would always produce a chestnut. We know now this is not technically true. If two Pearl carriers get together, they can produce a horse that appears to be similar to a Palomino. The base is still chestnut, but the horse is also a dilute, something recently thought impossible.

I admit, I found your posts confusing, simply because of the fashion they were written in, but you seem to be talking in absolutes. There are no absolutes for white patterns; there are "most of the time", "usually", and "commonly", but the white patterns are a funny thing. We are learning more and more about color genetics every day. A book that was accurate last year is probably not this year. Many people on this forum spend a great deal of time being as up-to-date on this knowledge as they can be. Since coming here, I have been trying to learn more and be more up-to-date myself.

That said, yes, some things you can only be sure of if you test, but if you know the signs and have the experience, there is no reason you cannot make a strong, educated 'guess'. You do not always have to see the parents or know the breed to determine a color. Can it help? Yes, but it is not always necessary.

Please, there is no need to shout or be rude. It does not help to make others believe you or side with you. The picture of the foal was placed here for us to enjoy and discuss openly.

Personally, I think she is absolutely beautiful and very striking. I would love to see more and better pictures of her sire and dam myself, just for my own pleasure.
