I shaved my geldings mane off last year and it has grown back in thick and about 18 inches long. I just shaved his forelock off about a month ago and it's grown about an inch and a half. (it was pretty pathetic before) so id say go for it! Though it does depend on the horse and their diet.. but all the horses mane's I've shaved have all grown in thicker and longer..

My QH gelding has a pathetic mane and forelock as well, his tail isn't too bad. I made the leap and roached his mane over the summer--and its coming in very nice. I left his forelock and have been using coconut oil on it and its the nicest its ever been. He is 17.
