Parents, how would you respond to your kids going out and drinking underaged?

What would your punishment be if you found out? Did you drink when you were a teenager? Did you get caught?

Discuss!!!

I am a teenager and I do NOT drink (but I am homeschooled so I think that helps), but kids in my bro's boy scout troop drink, and it is very sad that they do.
Sorry, just had to say that.

I drank as a teen, not a lot but I did drink. 18 is the legal drinking age here so only in high school was it considered "bad". Anyways, usually when I drank underage it was having a cooler or beer with my parents They started letting me with them at 16. Never to get drunk though, I would just have 1 or 2 with them.

I did go out a few times and drink. My parents' did NOT encourage it, however it was made very clear if I were to ever drink at a party to CALL THEM to come get me instead of driving myself or get into a vehicle with somebody else who was drinking. I was never afraid to call them and I think that is what made me only drink a few times and not every weekend (nore did I get out of control drunk like many of the others kids).

I never got in trouble for drinking, however my dad owned a saw mill at the time and you can bet your butt the next day he had me up at 6:00 am piling lumber LOL!! That was the biggest deterrent LOL!!!

I'm a teenager and I do NOT drink at all. I don't have any interest in it and don't approve of anyone underage doing it. I just think it's stupid to ruin your life that way. A former student from my school was just killed a couple of months ago because of alcohol.

When my daughter was a teen, she skipped school one time with a fe other girls that wre drinking. Got caught..( such is the life in a small town, I found out before she even got home that afternoon)..it was two weeks before senior prom. Now she had never gone to a prom before as a date or anything so this was her senior year and she had a dress, which I had made, a beatiful one, a date the whole nine yards. Guess what..she didn't get to go. Broke her heart..and mine as we had worked together planning her big evening..those were the consequenses of her actions..Never again. She is now married and a mother of two, my best friend and right arm in running the place here. It did not make her hate me..it did not destroy our relationship..its hard to be a parent sometimes but..we do the best we can..

It depends on what age you're talking about with underage. Underage and in high school is different than underage and in college. If I drank while i was still in high school, my dad would probably be pretty mad. I never ever did anything remotely like that, so I'm not even sure what he'd do. I was at boarding school across the country, so it's not like he could ground me or anything.

That being said, I started drinking when I was 18. Still 3 years underage, but I was in college. It's much more socially acceptable. Not everyone drank, of course, but it wasn't just the "bad kids" that were drinking underage. I'm a 4.0 responsible student, as are my friends, and we drank and had fun, but did it responsibly.

My dad knew that I was drinking when I was 18, I even told him a drunk story or two. He'd just laugh, he wasn't bothered in the least. I'm sure if I was doing poorly in classes and getting in trouble he'd have more of an issue with it. I'm 21 now, and I still drink.

My parents would probably have grounded me permanently had I drank while in high school (I never did) but I'm pretty sure they have an idea that I started drinking in college, before I turned 21. Not much they could do at that point, and I never got into any drinking-related trouble or anything like that, so they never even really knew for sure.

I don't agree with high school drinking, but I think it's a bit ridiculous that the law here is 21...it should be 18 along with voting, serving in the military, etc. So to me "underage" drinking should not be all lumped together. Responsible drinking is responsibily drinking, regardless of the age or the laws, IMO.

I worked eight years as a paramedic in Colorado, and I wish I could tell you about the drunk-and dead-teenagers I scraped off the pavement after fatal car crashes. Often they weren't the only ones killed, either.

BTW, I think it is irresponsible for parents to encourage their underage children to drink. It helps them set patterns that may stay with them a long time.
Just MHO.

Where I am, the drinking age is 19. I am a senior in high school and personally, I don't drink, but I do know many kids who do. My parents don't really mind that I drink at home. They prefer that I am drinking at home in a controled environment where they know I am drinking versus being at someone's house and not knowing where I am/ what I'm doing (but again, I don't drink and neither do my friends).
