This is correct. It is legal for your parent to give it to you, or your spouse....No one else.

Sorry, my mistake. My own interpretation of what I remember reading up on was incorrect... or I remembered it wrong. Thanks for correcting me...

not that I was going to go out and drink with a friend and their parents...

(even though that is just what my older brother did... but then... he was in Germany, and of legal age there... )

I am a teenager and I DO drink, though infrequently. My friends are older and they make sure I stay safe, and the group is ABSOLUTELY relentless about drinking/driving. We'll take someone's keys and throw them in a fire if we have to.

My mom doesn't know. My dad does. He always tells me "don't drink, but call me if you do!" Good policy. Now if it became a real problem...if I became an alcoholic (I'd be hard pressed to, as I'm underage AND it's expensive!) I know there'd be people trying to help me But that's definately not my plan!

I didn't drink until I was almost 21. Mostly because I did a lot of work with the EMS and saw what happens when you combine alcohol and driving.

Just yesterday a mother was telling me at the show that her 14 year old son is hitting the bottles. She was fine with it as long as he didn't take her gray goose. My mouth dropped. I didn't know what to respond with at all. She is like..he went to a house party and stumbled in around 3. AND she laughed about it.

I wanted to add, that I agree with parents encouraging it, because as a teen I know if my parents said "you are NEVER to drink" I would go HA, watch this mom.

But because my parents said "want a drink with me" it's not quite as exciting and I wouldn't go overboard.

I am 19 and a freshman in college, no one in my immediate family is a big drinker, my dad and I don't really like the taste of alcohol and my mom and her side of the family is directly from Europe so they grew up on wine. We have alcohol in our house and my parents always say I can have some as long as I am at home and not planning on going anywhere, I rarely will drink the cream drinks drinks. A couple of weekends my dad came back to his old frat house for homecoming, of course the only thing to drink are the 16 kegs of beer they bought, since I look young my dad actually said I should at least hold a beer so people didn't think I was 12.

I think my parents know I would never take things to far or do anything stupid, I also am not big in the taste so why bother. I just think that if you introduce kids when they are in their teens at home to alcohol, when they get older they don't feel a huge freedom and take things to far because it is nothing new to them, I think thatis why ther aren't as many problems in Europe with teens and alcohol.

I'm 19 and I won't lie the first time I got drunk I was only 13 at a friends bar mitzvah ahaha

In anycase, I only got caught once my senior year when I passed out drunk at my neighbors house after I told my mom me and a friend were going there to watch a movie oops! I was supposed to be grounded for 2 weeks according to the mother. My Dad told me to just ignore her...so I did.

Idk...I think in generally I was always pretty responsible, and I was also the youngest so my parents weren't as strict with me. In my opinion it happens teens drink. I think its just important to teach kids to respect themselves...as cheesey as it is I think my mom telling me I was precious all the time kept me out of a lot of trouble. I wouldn't have any issue with my kids drinking underage as long as they were with good people and taking care of themselves.

I am a teenager and just recently did i drink for the first time. And guess what?? my parents found out. No they did not yell at me or punish me. But we did have long talks about it.

My parents don't want to make it seem like drinking is some big bad thing that shouldn't be touched, because then it makes it much more likely for me to want to do it.

I like the way they handled it, instead of killing me over it. Although they did say that if they ever catch me doing stuff like that, that my "butt will be nailed to the wall". I think that's the expression my dad used lol.

I'm 18 and have been socially drinking for around 3 years. I'm pretty sure my parents think I probably started drinking at 16, but they don't really ask. Whenever I go out they just tell me that if I need a ride home, to call them, no matter what time it is, and never get in a car with someone who is intoxicated. All the regular parent stuff. They don't care that I drink. I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you're being responsible. It becomes a problem when young people are consistently drinking, because that can likely cause dependency, aka alcoholism, later on. I think we should be more worried about people who smoke underaged.

If you can own a gun and enlist in the army at 16, why can't you drink until you're 21? Seems quite silly to me.

I have dealt with this issue, having four children,my hubby and I have been down this road.my oldest son experimented alittle with drinking.got grounded and talked to about why he should not drink.also that we would pick him up anytime,if he called and needed a ride.he was good after that.second son wound up in hospitol for alcohol poisoning, could've died.he also got grounded, lost his driving privlages for a month, thank god he didn't drive drunk.had a long talk with him about why he was drinking, and tried to get him to realize that he was lucky to not have died.after that he was better,he is legal now,but dosn't feel the need to get drunk all the time.third son is just starting to experiment with it,we have sat down and talked to him and our daughter, the youngest.we hope that they have learned something watching the other two.both my hubby and I are social drinkers,so our children have seen us have a wine cooler or beer.however we do not get drunk or let them have parties with booze at our house..we hope that the youngest two will not put us thru as much stress as the other two..probably wishful thinking..but we have let them know if they need us or have a problem we are there for them and will love them no matter what.
