I was wondering if anyone had info about PNH? for example, done clinics, watched demonstrations etc. ?? What's your opinion on this method of horse handling/training? thanx, *alex* [ September 18, 2003, 05:11 AM: Message edited by: alex_2010 ] |

Hi i have seen two of pnh demonstrations at expos. the lady i board with used to have all his tapes , she still has the halter and rope. I have tinkered around with it and i have to say in some cases it works great, but it really tests my patience (i dont have alot of it sometimes)as far as training the horse for ground manners and to gain tis respect ist great. all the horses ive done it with or have watched others use it with have done excellent. They seem to enjoy it. Liz |

I highly recommend that you go through the Parelli levels. I started a few months ago with my 4 year old mare and she has come soooo far. Before we started she had very little respect for me and my space after just a couple of weeks doing pnh she loves to be around me. I know its b/c she enjoys playing the 7 games and there is always new stuff to do. PNH has taught me and my mare so much! [ September 18, 2003, 12:03 PM: Message edited by: Rocky ] |

He is awesome! I am a huge fan of Pirelli and John Lyons...I've been to several seminars with my younger horses and even and old one with an old habit. It does take a lot of patience and time. It is a huge committment on your part to train a horse yourself...everyday is a new lesson. I would highly recommend them both! |

PNH is great but make sure you don't get caught up in the advertising. You don't need a marine grade rope (but you should have a rope halter). You don't need to have the same clothes or saddles as him. Your horse doesn't care! I loved it because he taught me patience!

I love the ideas he uses to train the horses. From what I've seen, I would love to attend a clinic. But as far as "specific training equipment", that is personal preference. I've never owned a rope halter and special lead rope to go with it. And all my horses have come around just fine. I have used a "be nice" halter on ONE horse, only because he wasn't very nice on leading, but that was it. And if you look at the "parelli" halters, you can find the same one for MUCH less. Most of that stuff is for the trainer to make more money because horse owners are like that. If it's got a "Name" on it, they'll buy it, even though the $3.00 one right next to it, looks exactly like it, works just as good, and probably lasts MUCH longer too. (ever notice that the more expensive it is, the less it lasts?)

i've seen pat, about 2 years ago. it was the coolest thing ever. i loved how he told the history of every horse he brought out into the arena. i was even lucky to see him give his horse Oreo to this woman who had been learning from him personally. it was such a sad but happy time. and his methods r great. i kno this 1 woman who's been working w/ an 11 yo TB who was in a trailer crash and wasn't ride able after that. but she's done parelli things w/ him and now gets on him, but just walking. they have made a great bond and she is starting to get him on the trailer again. 1 hoof at a time, literally

I really want to do PNH, but I'm not old enough to get a job and there's like nothing I can do to get money. PNH is REALLY expensive! I've tried making do like using rope and making a rope halter, it's put together right but slids to a much bigger size than my colt's face. I've tried doing a carrot stick and savvy string but it just doesn't work. Any solutions to Pat Parelli's EXPENSIVE equiptment? Ya'd think he could lower the price for us poor people or SOMETHING! Not everyone is loaded with money like him, and I guess he don't realize some people want to do it but it's just too expensive..... Any suggestions for me? |

There are equivilant products out there that have been used for years without the huge expense. You can buy a simple rope halter for under 10 bucks that looks exactly like his. The "stick" can be as simple as a sunge whip..the one's with teh very short tails......I got mine for under $5 bucks like 8 years ago. Just look around your tack store and look at his stuff, and you can find the same stuff, just different brands and colors. Maybe a few inches shorter on a few things, but they all get the job done.
