If your Pinto is going to grey out, it could take a while to happen or could happen fairly quickly. It all depends on genetics. When it comes to the greying gene the only thing that is 'for sure' is that the horse will lose what color it has and will eventually turn white.
When breeding for a color pattern such as the Pinto patterns or the Appaloosa ones you just don't want to risk breeding to a grey horse. Many a foal has been born with gorgeous patterns only to have them disappear as the horse matures.

Quote:
A grey horse typically is born solid-colored, gets more and more white hairs with each coat, and with age will turn completely white. The rate of greying varies a lot; some horses grey out very fast, some slowly.

In most cases the first signs of greying are usually "goggles" around the eyes and on the face but sometimes the greying starts at the other end of the foal. White hairs may start showing up very early in the foals life, even a few days or weeks after birth.

Dappling usually occurs very heavily from the ages of four to 12, but of course the ages would depend on the speed at which a particular horse is greying.

I'll be sorry to see her pattern disappear, many are interested in buying her as young as she is. Still I can't complain if I'm left with this sweet mare, who favors her quarter father and is as sweet as they come. thanks for all the input as usual.

Hayburner, she's so pretty and beautifully built. What age did she start losing her colors?
