Talking Outie Belly button...

Ever seen an out belly button? My new mare has one. The veterinarian has looked at it to confirm is it indeed an outie, but I thought it was rather interesting. I'd never seen one before!

Hmmm....if your vet said it's okay, then I guess it is. I does really look like a hernia. I would keep an eye on it just in case. Has it always been there?

ya, thats what i thought... first thing in my mind was an umbilical hernia. a couple of horses at the rescue where I got my horses from had umbilical hernias and they looked just like that.

Yep, that's exactly what I thought as well. I had driven 4 hours to see her and when I saw the lump, I fre.aked. It has been confirmed to be an outie by two veterinarians (one at the adoption agency, a separate one that I called on) and a veterinarian's assistant.

I'm thinking thats not an outie belly button. It is to far cantered on your horses belly. horse belly buttons are farther back towards the flank. I think its a more front hernia from something else.
see where this foal has a belly button hernia --> Site Builder

The area I circled should be your horses belly button.

I would question what type of veterinarians these were. I have been around a lot of foals and I have never seen one with a centered umbilical cord.
