Funny you mention the farrier. We're gonna try to get him out within the next two weeks. Yankee has not have her feet done is "a while" due to her not wanting anyone around her. We might try out Doodle and see.

Doodle seems to walk away from me now as she knows I want to rub her. She kicks up her heels at anything and everyone, very playful she is.

As for her feet...here are some pics.

Back hooves. The left white sock seems to be getting some shading throughout but clearly some white that is dominant and most likely should stay white. The hoof is white and black but mostly black now.

Left front is obviously going black quickly. Right is soso.

Doodle chewing on Yankees tail? Some weird little gal here.

This pic is big and I dont want to resize it. I like to look at it. Its a pic of her half and half muzzle white/black with her lovely black and white whiskers combined. Her chin is pink underneath and white also.

I know what you mean about the farrier deal... Blaze has not had her feet done in a long time either. I feel bad everytime I look at them, but she is so against having them messed with that it can wait. I would rather do that than upset her. They are long but have good shape.

I really like that pic! I noticed her snip on her nostril before, but not the tiny line of white farther up her nose. She has such a sweet little face.

Her hooves look great . Good luck w/farrier she seems to smart for own good It will take time but keep working w/her and she'll let u rub on her and eventually touch her legs too. There little divas about leg touching.

If she is chewing on her tail she might eat it off , some foals will eat a mares tail to nothing, if you dont mind, just let it be , but otherwise id get something nasty on it to curb her from doing that, Ive seen some chewed right up to the tail bone.

OMG, now way! I just this week was able to brush Yankee's beautiful long black tail out and condition it. I won't allow Doodle to eat it off. How weird! This is the first for me to hear about foals eating moms tail....lol.

Doodle is smart. She knows I want her and we play ring around the Yankee a few times, at times. I can rub her neck, ears, legs, butt, actually her whole body with her standing. Lift her feet for a few seconds at a time. I have not messed with her head besides her ears. I read about touching the mouth so I have not.

Granted cute but also a little ******** at times. I dont want to let her get to spoiled and Yankee lets her dump her food tray over, kick her, eat her tail and lay underneath her. Doodle even nudges Yankee out of the way from food but only acts like she is eating because she cannot eat it. lol.

It sounds like you're doing an awesome job with the little girly, but one thing about foals is they're oh so cute and it's easy to forgive them for just about anything. Unfortunately...things that were cute when they're babies get pretty uncute when they're older.

It's totally your judgement call, and it doesn't sound at all like she's a budding hard-to-catch horse so don't get me wrong. I've watched many foal owners just laugh as the foal scurries away each time they reach out to pet them. Every time they approach the foal, the foal walks to the other side of the mare, and figures out pretty quick that if they walk away from the humans long enough, they won't have to be messed with. If you want to mess with her, it won't kill her to kinda get the crook of your elbow under her head and your other hand holding her tail. This will restrain her so she can't get away and she might be annoyed at first, but just pet on her. Pretty soon she'll be coming up to you to get pet on.

Again, she sounds more like a pocket pony than anything, but if you ever feel like she's taking advantage of you, it's important to start lessons early if you're going to be handling them early. It's cute now, but she won't forget what she's learned she can get away with when she's a weanling.

I totally agree with you. It is getting annoying. I dont press myself onto her and usually go pet her every other day. Normally I am grooming Yankee everyday because she is getting back to herself. I end up getting Doodle when she suckles then petting her back and wrapping my arm around her chest and butt. I didnt know about holding the tail. She is calm and enjoys the petting then gets fisty trying to bounce all over. I keep her until she is calm and then pet her and let her go. As I mentioned before she will even lift her feet with help. She's got alot of P and V in her all the time.

This coming week she will be haltered by the trainer. Probably Tues or Wed and we are going to get that started. I know not to leave the halter on her. I've had my own experience when I was 15 and just finished green breaking a mare I was given. My mother and I left her in the corral and came back an hour and half later finding her strangled to death. 25 yrs pass and I still remember vividly pictured in my mind.

Thanks for the input prairie, it will help.

Oh, and I feel so dumb.....lol. Her back hoof is white! It was just covered with a good coat of dirt I guess. Must have fell off....lol. She has a white stripe on the end of her hoof on the right front too. Maybe she will have some white mixed with the black in her on this right front. Anyway I was wrong about the hoof changing colors.

wow Diva already! She sounds like has a great personality . Wish I could see her up close. She's real good about contact that's a plus great job. Keep in touch. I agree w/praire you can hold them around under head and hold by tail be careful she will get picture and understand the routine after awhile. Do it as much as possible like your doing and she'll eventually stand for you. good luck!
