I haven't heard anything either way, but it makes sense. I would definitely do a halter for leading on a little one.

Sure is cute! And what looong back legs she has, gonna be a big girl, and pretty! YANKEE DOODLE... so partriotic..

I could have got the lead rope on Yankee today but I felt I would leave our visit (which was a long one) on a good note and try tomarrow to lead. So if I am rambling and have not mentioned, Yankee had become a real pill and true mean in her when the foal arrived. Horomones etc I guess. All is coming along well with that. Yankee is doing great too.
Thanks guys, gals...........I was talking about Yankee with her halter and leading her. She has been a bit protective of Doodle and did not want touched or anyone around Doodle. So I was just explaining that all went well today and I hope it progresses in a positive way.

I've already put a halter on Doodle. She is good about it. I dont leave it on, just put it on and take it off. No leading for a few weeks, I've got to get Yankee back together before I even start Doodle leading.

THanks for the advice.........appreciated.

The dark underneath can be very confusing and possibly mean nothing at all, its very hard to predict what shade she will be till she actually sheds I will ad some pics for examples of how ...

My buckskin filly when born had a ton of black under her coat

one day old:

Her shed out:

Another foal I had is bay,

Yrling:

same filly as a 2 yr old in winter coat

Very beautiful horses! I'm about positive 99 percent Doodle is a bay. As early as it is definately have to wait for the shedding. I find just a few things odd about her coloring which is -

She has stripes on her legs. They seem dominant at this time and the stripes look white. A mule trait I was thinking?

She has black lines going down each side of her withers coming through her bright bright red. Like lightening bolts.

She is very black underneath her baby hair, all over, except on her legs. I expect her legs to turn black at least half way up.

She has a very deep reddish black stripe coming out/instead of fading from her butt to her withers.

Her muzzle is black with black dots and white whiskers.

Lastly, her ears are tipped black and not black inside or elsewhere. And her ears are not black shaded under the red. Her tail skin is pink and the black hairs are turning white.....lol.

OMG, I love watching this little thing. She is so soft. I spent an hour this morning with Doodle and Yankee. Doodle wanted to play hide n seek and Yankee just wanted to eat.

I would be happy if Doodle turned out like your bay or something alike.
