Yea, all mares are so different, it's hard to say what a "normal" foaling looks like. Most commonly they become VERY restless, contractions are VERY obvious and they may circle the stall several times. Several of the births I've been witness to the mares got up and down several times...I believe that's to help the position of the foal.

Wow, thats some pics. The feet always come out first right? So here I am sitting. I know I've been waiting a very long time. Caring, feeding, watching My heart THUMPED this morning on my routine check of Yankee. I think I am having some anxiety finally. lol. Maybe just alot of excitement over nothing again. In the first pic, she is dripping a very thick white mucus like from the teat that is on her right side and the other on the left (closest in the pic) is very waxed up but not dripping. I need another pic, after loading this it doesnt show whats going on that well. ![]() Her adema set in again last night or is this just baby? A shot of her underbelly. |

Odd behavior. Swishing and flipping her tail like she is angry. Obvious and long glares at her belly. Stomping and/or pawing her feet. Lots of licking, chewing and/or yawning. Kicking at her belly. Lots of sniffing around the ground with no particular aim. Laying down and getting back up shortly after. Rolling, even if it looks innocent. Winking and/or squirting. Pacing. Sweating anywhere, but mostly neck and flanks. Noticeable, sudden tensing of the body (contractions). Standing with her back legs a little splayed and looks to be pushing a little (strained expression, etc.). Those are all consistent signs. Some mean more than others. Unfortunately in maidens they don't always show classic signs. In this particular case I would mostly look for excessive pacing, pawing and sweating. Do keep an eye on her flanks for tensing and possible pushing (contractions). ACC |

^ That was post 1,300. Sweet. I think that is baby you are seeing. Watch for hooves poking out near her flanks now. Yes, the feet always come out first in correct presentations. Once you see feet, without being invasive, try to determine if they are indeed front feet and if they are pointing down (where foal's head will be above them when it gets there). The photo above is a ncie example of what you want to see. ACC |

No baby at my house either and we are on day 350! What the heck are these girls waiting for? Belle has been very calm the last 2 days, no signs of possible labor like the other night. The contest continues........

With all my grandparents standardbred mares, they dripped "constant" milk for about 2 days or so before they had their babies. I think we're getting extra close now
