And you say the colt was very young. How young is that?? Mine bred at 9 months and new just what he was doing. So they are really never to young. If there's a will there's a way. The mares will even squat down for them. And maybe they both happen to be in heat at the same time for the paint stud. Only time will tell. Good Luck!!

I have no idea how old the palomino colt was. I am not sure to hope who bred her. I do know they were both from descent pedigrees of QH. I am happy I am not getting a mule. I am getting excited, that I do know. I worry and think alot about her needs at this point and not so much who the dad is anymore. I think about what the foal will look like and if it is a colt or filly. I also think of the vet bills and the food bills it has been costing me....lol. The previous owner just said this...

Hello Judy,

This is Jessie. My daughter told me you left a message but they deleted it with your number. I was going to put something on craigslist for you but you got to me first. Anyway, we got her form a guy named Dave McGrath. We have a young quarter palomino but I think he's to young. Tha lady down the road has a paint stud that got out and came down here but we never thought he got to them. Yes, them. We surprisingly have our bay mare, now nine months, pregnant as well. So, there is a good chance we will end up with color but like I said, we never saw any horse even try to get our mares. So, are you excited about a baby? We are but it set Taylor back awhile on her gymkhana for the year. Anyway, if there is anything else I can do to help email me at blankblank@aol.com . The house phone gets answered by alot of different people and very rarely do I get a message correctly. I check this email daily. Good luck to you all. You have a great web page which I have under favorites now incase I need to get in touch with you guys again. Hope you all have a very happy new year. Jessie"

So if you can figure a color out of that, I'd say your an expert. We await...Anytime Feb or March? ANd I do not know that the mares were bred at one time although they did not have my Yankee more than a month before I bought her from them. So I would say it was darn close breeding if not the same day/night.

Thanks for the replies

Just an update - Yankee is starting to get that bumpy look underneath. She no longer has that nice round look. Like showing there is really something inside there Alot of weight has been gained in the past two weeks. Although excersized (when it's not so muddy and rainy out), she is looking blah. Is this ok? I mean blah like so out of shape, her figure looks slouched, her back is looking very sway and her hind end looks like a ski slope. You may not notice in this pic but that is how she looks lately. Normal?

Yankee having a baby soon!

Not that I can see or tell. I look under her belly, hec, I have to practically get all the way under her to see because of her huge belly. You can no longer just bend over and look under, no pun intended. She looks extremely pregnant if you ask the eye of a newbie on foaling and pregnant mares.

Per the vet/sonogram she is 7-8 months. Per the previous owner she is 9.5 months along. Although I am her owner (since July 07) I do not know the birthing date. She was in foal when I purchased her therefore leaving an unexpected pregnancy for our family.

I get a little concerned how she looks at times. Maybe just nerves being the first for us.

Also, it is wet, rainy, muddy out and I watch her standing out on pasture. All she does today is stand and swish her tail aside and under/between her legs.......there are no flies?? I wonder about this also.

THanks

Just another update........

I'm throwing out any due dates given by the vet and previous owner.

Today, the foal moved for hours. Yankee is swelled up a bit and very relaxed in her vulva. She was taking big breathes off and on. Rolling around in some straw I put down for her. In the pic above, with the braided tail, she was swatting her belly side to side and under between her legs extremely hard while kicking her belly with her hind hooves. She took a few naps and nibbled. This went on all day, on and off.

Lastly, she seems to have a hard time walking. She is stiff in her hind legs and mostly dragging them hoof by hoof as she walks which is not far. She has been taking a poop frequently and in very small amounts?

We are actually building a two stall barn for her and her foal, so she is in a round pen tonight with straw on the ground.

Labor?

THanks for any opinions......

Nope......today the foal is moving very frequently, her belly is sagging, She rolls often in the straw, she is kicking her belly and swishing her tail side to side extremely hard as like a whip, when she unrinates she seems to be winking? for about 20-30 seconds after.....she is extremely loose everywhere (ligaments, vulva), taking deeps sighs of breathe on and off.......

Same as yesterday..........also she looks as if she is just a tad larger with possible milk coming in. But not much change in the udders.

Thanks for asking........and your advice and interest.....this, the vet and my friends are very helpful helping me along on what to watch for..... just in case this could be pre mature labor or something, or maybe just the real deal

I've added a few pics. Although muddy she does have a nice big dry area with clean straw, I guess she prefers the muddy part of the pen. I dont want anyone thinking she is stalled in mud.
She has been brushed out today once....so it shows how she has been laying and rolling often. But she shows not signs of eminent labor.

Vulva a bit swollen and very flabby like loose........with what I call her camel hump. She is very rounded atop in the past two days.

Her tail seems to be sunken in between her topline and rump

A full body pictures.......she seems exhausted and irritated.

I would like some advice, prefer from people who have had foals or a foal.

How long can my Yankee roll, kick her belly, nip and groom like behind her front legs, walk stiffly? Is this labor or seem like it? Today there is no baby moving that I saw but she still is doing all the above along with beating herself with her tail side to side and under. Her belly also today looks flat on the sides instead of round? Should I call the vet?

I'm worried so please advice from your mare and foals experiences. This has gone one now will be the third day.

Thanks.
