Well....we are trying to build her a nice stall in the holding area she is in. It was planned but not this soon. So Yankee expedites this building. Usually all the horses are out in pasture with a horse shed or two here and there. It seems crazy around here. Our vet says maybe a month or two left. Could have had prematuer labor but she is healthy and all is well with her. Watch her for anything abnormal (like I dont already) He stuck his hand, well, his whole arm ewhhH!....Let's just say I did'nt watch from the behind section and said "I feel a foal ahuh, yep.". Our vet is the ol timer up here and somewhat has old time equiptment. She had her blood taken and it is going to be taken also to the vet clinic next week in town. She needs feeding as we are doing now with some mare and foal that I can pick up in town.

I just took on a 3 yr old, so this place is going to be busy in a few months.

THanks for the info and comments........for now.....we wait. And then update.

I would keep a very close eye on the mare in that last photo she looks like she could go anytime within the next month.
Is she a maiden mare? and any idea who the sire is? if not i would be contacting previous owners asking what stallions were about.

Thank you. I do watch her. More now than ever. I am out working all day and find myself watching her even when I work other horses. It's not a bad thing, just that I so happened to take on a project 3 yr old and this happens. Thursday I should know for sure, exactly her due date or around it with the blood work being done. I guess they can tell by doing so. She has a stall almost done for her delivery. It is not a castle but is clean, 15x15 with four sides, a top and a good size entry. It does get a bit cold but not yet. Usually in Dec/Jan.

This has to be her first baby. When I purchased her in June her teats were way up and tight like my other mares who have not had babies. I called the previous owner about her west nile shot a few months ago with no return call. I called about this foal and also no return call as of today. I'm not really understanding this situation of selling a mare in foal, not returning calls. From what I remeber there were no studs.....but it is obvious one was lurking in the background. I'm hearing a bad time for a foal and this being our first, not planned, makes me nervous. That is why I got a 3 yr old......not a weanling. We are people with a bit of brains and can put our heads together and work it all out. We will see how it goes. Just waiting. I almost feel like I did when I had my kids....lol. Wait, wait!

just now actually read this thread.

And wow! What a surprise Hope all goes well. I know you weren't planning on the whole situation, but babies are so much fun! Halter breaking spazzy little foalies and weanlings is always fun.

I came across this thread right now... I'll definitely keep checking back!

I hope everyting is going to be ok and she'll give you a healthy sweet little baby soon!

*sigh* makes me think of this spring when I was waiting for Willow, our first foal...

I was just wondering, maybe the previous owner didn't have her for very long before he sold her to you. Maybe he purchased her pregnant already?

I have not posted to this thread I started for a loooong time. I'm sorry for anyone who was watching it. We raise meat goats and were in kidding season one. It's almost over, whooh! A very busy time for us.

Yankee did have a sonogram done. She is in foal at almost eight months now and due Mid March to Mid April. She was pregnant and in foal when I bought her and not told. As one said, maybe they did not have her long enough to know either. Yankee has been being fed mare care way and taken care of. We are told she has a very large foal and a little larger than Beagle size right now.

I'm excited but nervous. We are not horse breeders and I beleive in breeding for a purpose - pedigree/enhancement of breed or stock, those type of breeding. Not just for the hec of it. Our first time around and hope all goes well. We may decide to take her to the vet for her foaling and have them watch/help as needed because we are that unexperienced with horse birthing.

Again, sorry for the long delay but we have been so extremely busy! I'll keep this post up if anyone is interested.

Yes please keep us updated I just read through this and well I hope it was a decent looking stallion so you get a nice foal! Glad your really thinking about the safety of the animal and possibly taking her to the vet to foal, instead of trying for yourself when you werent even expecting this!!
Hows your girls taking this news??? I bet there excited!!
