Reminds me of the great racehorse Ferdinand in the face. What a gorgeous looking mare! You did her such a favor by taking her in. They really do appreciate their people thrice as much when rescued I believe. We've been through the process twice ourselves.

Another update

Here's our rescue, after 10 weeks in our care:

The move to the new yard went well for her, and she was all agog when she saw the little foal for the first time. This is the first time since we got her that she showed interest in any other horse. I must admit I had tears in my eyes - she is coming to life again. After giving her time to adjust, we put her in a paddock with the mare and the foal. I think this is very good for her. And for the first time since we got her she actually looked me in the eye the other day and asked for a carrot. Another teary eyed moment for me. Not to mention the Tat One.

Just as a reminder, the day we got her:

2 days ago at the new yard:

Look, ma, not croup-high anymore!
