Post Oops! Sorry! Keep reading for my idea

Sorry everyone i hit enter too soon blushing .
Anyway, as you can read I have a new idea for training idea for my mare. If you haven't read my other post (How Do I Convince My Parents??), then just to let you know, I'm blind. Long story. If you want details email me at No1HorseGal@aol.com. Anyway... my mare is already very well trained, all I have to do is put a saddle and bridle on her, mount, and she does most of the rest of the work! A few days ago though, she spooked (this is her first time in like, 5 months) from a gate banging shut. I'm thinking about taking her through all types of different situations (i.e. a gate closing shut right behind her, kids running around by her, all that kinda stuff that makes mares spook), and getting her used to them. She's an Arabian, and some people may think this is too risky, but remember she is already specially trained to handle difficult situations because I'm blind, but now I want her to be even better at that kind of things. What does everyone think? Sorry if this is a huge post, I usually have a lot to say! wink Bye!

Thanks! Any suggestions for these "creative" ideas? I'm thinking about having my little cousins handling her. She's fine with me, but I don't know how she'll react to little wailing kids. Hopefully well. Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks for the great suggestions!

When I used to have an arab I know he was terrified of plastic! Once in the middle of a dressage test in an outdoor ring a plastic grocery bag blew by and we broke into a canter when we were supposed to be free walking! eek! whoops! Getting her used to plastic bags would probably be a good idea since they can blow along anytime

This may sound dumb..but how do you go online if you can't see? That's amazing that you can ride and train horses though, that's really awesome.

Does your community have Mounted Police?
If so why not see if you could bring your horse to one of their training sessions. That way you could expose her to all sorts of situations, noises and enviorments!

Hey RiverMountainLady~
My computer reads me what you type. Pretty handy, if you know what I mean wink Thanks,I get a lot of questions asked about how I train my mare and stuff. If you have any questions, just ask me!

Hey Sandra A1~
That's an AWESOME suggestion. I live near San Francisco, and maybe they have Mounted Police there... I'll check it out! You have got to be the smartest person ever!

The main thing is not to overload her too soon. Build things up gradually, for example if she is scared of whips, you would start out just carrying a short crop when you are around her, then move on to stroking her shoulder with it very gently. You would build up the length of the whip and the speed at which you move it around gradually taking care never to spook her so much that she jumps until eventually you can swing a lunge whip at her back end and she just sees it as a signal to walk on and isnt scared of it at all.
If it is loud noises (like gates banging) she is scared of then you can record the sound of the gate banging and play it very quietly in her stable at feeding time. hopefully she will be too occupied with her feed to notice and you can gradually play it louder and louder until it is as loud as a real gate banging.
Hope this helps

Those are great ideas! My mare is kind of spooky with banging things. I'll make sure I do both of those ideas first! Thanks!
Anything else? I'm open for ideas!

Wow! You sound like an amazing person! There is a trainer near you who is quite well known. She's in Union City. Her name is Donna Synder-Smith she may have some techniques and tips to help you out, or perhaps you and your horse could take a few lessons to get a solid foundation. Her website is www.donnasnydersmith.com.

Keep us posted!
