Omg!!! *lice*

Well I had an interesting day today!! I went out to work Shrek and give him some TLC, and I had him in the barn and was just about to brush him when I noticed hundred's of little brown bugs crawling on his neck!! So the lady who is boarding my horse for me got on the phone right away and the vet confirmed it was lice!! He didn't have them (or had very few) just a few days ago, and today major infestation. So we checked the rest of the horses and the only other one that we could find any on was the other little gelding that shares a pasture with Shrek, but he didn't have many. Sooooooooooooo, off to the Vet's I go (an hour and a half drive) to get some delousing med, which I bought enough to cover all the rest of the horses on the property. Anyways, the vet says that by tomorrow the lice should be dead, and the med has a 45 day residual, so hopefully I won't see any more of the creepy things again.

Because of the 21-28 day incubation of the knits and because Shrek was the only one that was infested I am 99.9% sure it was Shrek that brought them in, so I bought the delousing stuff out of my pocket for the rest of the horses, but I still can't help but feel horrible about it!!

Hmmm... all the sudden my head itches...

I hope he's feeling less creepy-crawly soon.

I was horrified when I found those things!! I felt like such a bad owner, even though I didn't know he had them until today!! I have brushed him very thoroughly too before today, so it's not like it was missed. I am relieved however, that the lady who is boarding my horse wasn't angry, and she was very appreciative that I bought the med's for the rest of the horses too.

Update on the lice!! Today I went out there and the lice were dead!! Yay, I am so relieved!! I am so happy that the med's worked so quickly and they were very easy to administer. I was so worried that it was going to be a powder that was going to be messy and hard to put on, but it was just a liquid in a syringe that you put down the middle of their back. Oh, and for the person that asked about the price of the stuff, it was only 7.50 for each syringe!!
