My heart belongs to the old style QH. Echo has Poco Bueno Breeding and should be bulkier but he is slightly taller and a bit leaner. To me Poco Bueno is synonomus (sp?) with Quarter Horse.
But that's just my opinion.

I like the old style quarter horses better. I prefer a more stocky, cowy horse. That's why I've got Beau, she's Foundation, and you can really see the Doc lines in her.

Here is some more Poco. I think that he is THE classic QH representitive. When I think QH this is the body type I mean. Refined head!?! Here you go then.

This is not to say that there aren't things I would improve about him, like a thicker stifle and I would make him level. I think his neck could have been nicer than it is with some work, but you get the idea. Good post Stina!

I like the older style. The "new style" halter quarter horse disgusts me. They all have HUGE muscles, stick legs, and tiny feet. I sometimes wonder how they move! **shudders** Though, the quarter horses that compete in like cutting and reining, I could look at alllllllllll day. lol

Trust me Mini. Farrier's miss those big feet and take pity on those horses. You can thank the Judges and then breeders and then some of the trainers for that too!

Ugh! This is a topic that makes no sense. (And I'm not trying to nock the OP's idea) It's just that there were just as many "old style" foundation QH's that looked very TB. Here's a few.

Joe Hancock Major Foundation QH, sire of lines that are famous for cow and ranch work

Hard Twist another major Foundation QH sire also of cow horses and rodeo horses

Plaudit Foundation QH sire again with cow horses and roping horses

Joe Reed Foundation QH sire making bloodlines of working Ranch and show horses in cow events. Sure he's got muscle, but way leggier and taller than those stocky "old style" QH's

Old Joe Bailey Foundation QH sire. Again sire of cow horses, big time.

Peter McCue Foundation QH sire. A whole lot of good modern Foundation QH's trace back to him.

Grey Badger II Foundation QH sire and in Two Eyed Jacks Ped. Looks kinda like a TB for an "old style" QH.

Oklahoma Star about one of the top leanding Foundation QH sires in history. Heavy on the cow influence and found in sought after Foundation QH's to this day. First pict is of him and second is him and his dam.

I'd put more but I'm probably close to the limit on pictures in a post now. The Quarter Horse has always been a diverse breed of many body styles. Even back to our Foundation Sires. So there really is no "old style" and "modern" QH. But it is a continuation of what the breed started with and where it's still going. Thats why the AQHA promotes them as "Americas Most Versitle Horse" There is a "type" of QH for any event you want to do. Well maybe not saddleseat, but you get the picture.

Edited to add: And I guess I should mention, we raise, train and show Foundation QH's and they are my passion. But what we own goes from a 17hh over 90% foundation QH gelding who's built but not stocky and a 14.3hh over 80% foundation QH mare who looks just like Peppy. So I perfer which ever horse can get the job done. Doesn't matter if he's tall and legy (and we rope and do WCH with the gelding) or if she's short and packed. As long as the cow is still there, I just don't care "which" body type it has.

I'd like to say that Grey Badger II looks NOTHING like a TB to me. Look how thick he is! However, this is just my opinion.

I wouldn't say that any of those horses look like TBs, really.
