Wink Okay color experts; Another one for ya'

I'm going to post some pics of my Mustang gelding and I have no earthly idea how his sire and dam are colored so I thought the color gurus on here might help me out as I've always been curious He may just be a plain ol' common Bay but I would like to know what (if any) of the possibilities are sire and dam wise. He was captured out of Devils' Garden in California (Modoc County) where, as I understand from reading, there is a lot of Draft influence in the herd he came from. So without further ado, here are the pics: Oh BTW, the light hairs in his mane grow in that color, it's not sun-bleached & it's only the back half of his mane that grows in that way

Those aren't cracks in his hoof, it's a piece of hay

An itty-bitty spot of white hairs on his rump:

The low black on his legs is indicative of "wild" bay.

The silvery hairs in his mane are interesting! I'd like to hear what others say about that...

the lighter colored mane hair would be called frosting right? Which is a characteristic of dun? But I also think that it is the characteristics of wild bay also......correct me if I am wrong

Frosting yep, sometimes wild bays have it sometimes they dont. Some regular bays have it as well.

I figured with the way the black is low on his legs he would be considered wild bay, but RMT, you really think he carries the sabino gene? Interesting! The way the back half of his mane grows in like that has always had me very curious as I've never seen a Bay whose mane grows in with those light hairs like his does. So you think the white frosting on his lower legs would indicate Sabino? Sorry if that's a dumb question

Not sure on that, but the white markings are sabino. White frosting on the fetlocks may be because of wild bay.

We need to know how old this horse is before assuming the low black is caused by wild bay...

I agree with the sabino.
