ok worming schedule?

This is the worming schedule that Pagan's old owner followed in the past. I was wondering if it was ok.

Jan - Equimax
April - Equest
June -Equest
September - Equest
December - Equest

But then for the next year (05) she has

April - Equest
August - Strategy
October - Equest

I don't really know much about worming. While I'm asking, do you squirt the wormer into the side of the horses mouth?

i was always told that you are supposed to rotate wormers having 2 different wormers between each, like mine goes something like equimax, pyrantel pamoate, bendazole, combocare, pyrantel pamoate, bendazole, equimax..... and yes you lift their head and put the tube in the side of their mouth and squirt it in

I am not sure about your brands but you need as best practice to worm every 6 to 8 weeks which is known as interval dosing.

You should routinely worm with a product containing ivermectin which protects from all but tapeworm and threadworm and then twice a year worm with a product that contains pryantel (april and october)

You need to ensure the full dose goes into the horse and it swallows it so inject through teeth gap into side of mouth and give him a carrot or apple or something he likes so he swallows it all.

First of all, equimax only lasts for 8 weeks, yet there is a 12 week intervel between your next worming.

Equest lasts for 12-14 weeks, so once again, some of the dates are a bit out of whack.

Heres what I do:

January- Worm with Ammo
March - Worm with Equest
June - worm with Oxyminth
August - worm with Oxyminth
October - Worm with Equimax
December - Worm with Ammo

Oxyminth is used in Winter as it is bendizole based, the others are mectin based and are used in the warmer months.

I always do Ivermectin product in the spring (April) and Summer (July), the Quest type stuff w/tape worm ingrediant in the fall (October), and normal Quest in the winter (January). This has worked great for our horses!

Equimax contains moxidectin that keeps bloodworms away for 12 weeks. Ivermectins only keep for 8 weeks.
