Oxytocin is used in a variety of species for a variety of things. Many of what have been mentioned and it is also commonly used in mares to expel excess fluid from a uterus. Bascially as it would afterbirth.

I have never heard of anyone using it in cows we have always used Lutalyse.

We used oxytosin to induce labor on our overdue rabbits. Not that you need to use it on your horse, of course. I believe that she is fine. But, that's what we used it for. After giving them the shot, they would have their kits in less than 15 min(s). Of course, we had to stand there and help with the delivery. Anyway, I'm waiting with my hands folded and my heart yearning to see the little one. Lord bless...

yes do tell that stubborn mare and baby that we are comeing to get them!! that will hopefully get her moving. kinda hope the little things in born on my day though. would be nice to actully name the darned thing we all have been waiting for

I think it is time to have serious talk with this mare.

She needs to think about having this foal in her nice comfy pen OR in a stadium filled with HGS members cameras, FlASHY, FLASHY, Cheers, venders the works!
