Exclamation Ok now I'm really worried about prego mare****vet update****

Thought I would start a new thread as the other one is quite long. Vet just left baby is alive. He said a week maybe two. But we do have a problem she has had to much fescue. So he is going to give me a shot that my hubby will administer that will help her lactitate but it takes 5 days to go into effect so hopefully she will wait till then. He also said she may have a diffucult birth as the baby is quite mushed in there already and feels like it is going to be a big baby. The cervix is not dialated yet but is really close. Thanks all for your wishes and prayers please continue for a little while longer.

Hope BW has everyone's dates from the last thread.

ooooo, I just got goosebumps...

I'm glad to hear that the baby is still alive. Did the vet say that he would be able to be there for the birth?!

Yeah it's so close! How exciting

WOW.....make sure you keep an eye on her. Its nice to know in advance of a potential problem rather then figuring it out after....

I forgot to ask if he could be available I was overwhelmed with the news of no milk. I will ask him tomorrow when I get the shot from him.

As long as that foal has been in there I'd say it's big! ...and MUSHED! I am guessing she has to be already overdue. Whoe know we could be watching the world record mare in foal here and we'd never know it! LOL

Was the shot he was giving her Domperidone? If so I didn't know if came via injectable.

I guess we can all breathe easier now. So does this mare have a name? Do you think you'll be able to assist her if need be? Is she easy to handle? Sorry jsut switching into foaling mode!

I forgot what the injection was called he said it is given to people with scysofrenia (sp). Well I was looking at my records and the date I said we brought her home was wrong according to my records we brought her home March 6th not Feb 4th sorry for that mis info.

The mare's name is Katy Lynn. She is easy to handle once you get to her so I don't know if she will let me near her while she is having the foal. I would hate for her to get up and try to walk away when she is in the middle of having the foal as far as my capabilities I wouldn't have a problem with helping her if need be. I'm going to gather some old sheets and take them down to the barn just in case. I checked the weather and from now till next week it's supposed to be pretty decent not to cold and dry.

Alright well I understand. My mares have always trusted me enough that if they needed assistance I have given it. However Adam and I work in a pair. One of us stands at her neck while the other assists. If she starts to get up we just push them back down. They never fuss with us. Sheets and towels be good. Some hay string is always good too. Trashbag for placenta. Can you keep a turnout halter on her incase you need to get a hold of her? All I can say is Push Katy Push!

Cant you put her in a corral or stall? Leave a halter on her so she will be easy to get a hold of. That fescue does cause problems, so now we pray that she waits five days for her milk. Does he have Colostrum(oops) for you if she goes early? Now lets all do the hold off dance.

I can keep a halter on her and I have a husband that can help and if he is not here then I know one of my teenaged sons will help. And I do have hay string from previous bales of hay. Should I wash the hay string. It was interesting when the vet wrapped her tail to check her he used an inner tube from a bike tire he said they work great for wrapping the tail.

Yes I will be putting her in the corral. He said it wasn't necessary just yet. She wasn't happy with the vet check so I let her out at least for tonight. He does not have any colostrum and said it would not be a bad idea to find some just in case. So I will call around and see if I can get my hands on some.
