LOL so very true BW. This reminded me. When I was four my parents had a mare named Sugar and Pete (the Pete is still have) Pete is a Two Eyed Jack son and was not gelded until the mid 90s Sugar was also a QH but I know nothing about her because my dad lost his job and my mom ended up preggers with little bro and Sugar was sold. Anyway back to my story I vivdly remember Sugar foaling in mid-May which is usually very warm here in TN and there being 4 inches of snow outside! The next day it was back to 60 degrees. I dunno just thought I'd share that...

I just read in a horse magazine I got today about a madien mare that stayed in foal for 13 months!!

How come these days mares are taking so long to foal? or is this just an odd case??

Watched pot never boils!
My friend has a mare that will not foal if someone is around. You can sit there day and night, go in to use the bathroom and that baby will be on the ground when you come back.

freedom32 I had a mare like that!!!! Cora would stand around in her stall and quiet like. She would hang her head over your shoulder just soaking up the lovings.. The minute you ran in the house to use the facilities.... Out pops the foal . I just loved that mare she produced some lovely foals. She was the same everytime she foaled. I could tell you the day she waxed up was the day she would foal as soon as you weren't looking. Always an easy labor and a wonderful mom.

I hope things go smothly for this mare as well.

My husband was quite disappointed that I called the vet but this has been going on long enough and I want to know if the baby is ok. The mare seems fine eating, running, pooping etc. I just hope this doesn't end up costing me more than what we paid for her.

Well just to have her checked it shouldn't be that bad. Tell hubby you can pay a few dollars and make sure everythings okay or spend a fortune heaven forbid something go wrong. If my vets would have come on Annie when her saga started I wouldn't have lost a very dear mare and would have a LOT cheaper vet bill. The night AJ was born cost me 2300 dollars. You can use that as an example. I can't wait to hear the vets findings!
