| Senior Member+ | Oh no...what have I gotten myself into? Braiding question... I have agreed to pull and braid this woman's welsh pony mare for her (for a price, of course) for this Keurring(sp?) that she's going to. She heard through the grapevine that at my last barn I had been hired to thin and band manes for owners going to shows...so she asked me. This little mare had this VERY thick, but long mane...so I figured it would be no problem to get it thin enough, because there was enough length on it. Well, about a week and a half ago, I come to the barn, intent on starting to thin out her mane, and her owner has CHOPPED IT OFF! So now, it's about 6 inches long and still VERY THICK! For the past few days, I have been pulling it, first just regular pulling, and last night, I used a thinning comb to cut it because it was getting TOO short. I will be finishing thinning it today, but it will still be pretty thick. I've never braided before (only banded), and I hadn't decided on what type of braid to do, but was thinking of doing hunter braids, and making them smaller with more of them along her neck because her mane is so thick. She's also the typical pony...shorter thick neck....doesn't more, smaller braids along the neck make it look thinner? Any advice/suggestions are MUCH appreciated. I will be braiding on Monday night

| Senior Member+ | hunter braids would look nice as long as its tight to the crest. I'd be worried the hair would start coming out, but if you use enough gel... You can do a double hunter braid, basically one running braid on top of the other...works great for thick manes and it keeps it looking tidy.

| Senior Member+ | A lot of little braids will make her neck look longer. Good luck!
